Grand Duke Of Luxembourg
The Grand Duke of Luxembourg ( lb, Groussherzog vu Lëtzebuerg, french: Grand-duc de Luxembourg, german: Großherzog von Luxemburg) is the monarchical head of state of Luxembourg. Luxembourg has been a grand duchy since 15 March 1815, when it was created from territory of the former Duchy of Luxembourg. It was in personal union with the United Kingdom of the Netherlands until 1890 under the House of Orange-Nassau. Luxembourg is the world's only sovereign grand duchy and since 1815, there have been nine monarchs, including the incumbent, Henri. Constitutional role The constitution of Luxembourg defines the grand duke's position: :The grand duke is the head of state, symbol of its unity, and guarantor of national independence. Alberto Elli
Alberto Elli (born 9 March 1964) is an Italian former road racing cyclist, who wore the yellow jersey for 4 days in the 2000 Tour de France. Elli was called up late for the 2000 Tour de France, and after a group of 12 cyclists stayed away from the others, Elli became a surprise leader, being the second oldest cyclist in the peloton. He kept the yellow jersey until the Pyrenées mountains, where he lost it to Lance Armstrong. After retiring, he worked as a directeur sportif for several professional teams. During the 2001 Giro d'Italia, the police found banned substances in Elli's hotel room. In October 2005, he received a six-month suspended sentence by San Remo Judge Paolo Luppi. Kirchberg, Luxembourg
Kirchberg ( lb, Kierchbierg, meaning "church hill") is a quarter in north-eastern Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. It consists of a plateau overlooking the north-east of the historical city center, Ville Haute, connected to the rest of the elevated city by the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge, which spans the Pfaffenthal valley. It is often referred to, in reference to the geographical feature it inhabits, as the Kirchberg plateau, or simply Kirchberg by Luxembourgish residents. Kirchberg is the predominant location of the European Union institutions and bodies based within Luxembourg, and is sometimes used as a metonym for the EU's judiciary, which occupies the quarter. A1 Motorway (Luxembourg)
The Autoroute 1, abbreviated to A1 or otherwise known as the Trier motorway ( lb, Tréierer Autobunn, french: Autoroute de Trèves), is a motorway in Luxembourg. It is long and connects Luxembourg City, in the south, to Wasserbillig, in the east. A few hundred metres to the north of Wasserbillig, it reaches the German border, whereupon it becomes the A64, which leads to Trier. Overview Originally a connection from Luxembourg City to Luxembourg Airport, at Senningerberg, in 1969, the A1 was extended in three stages from 1988 to 1992 to connect to the German border. From 1994 to 1996, two more sections were opened, bypassing the south-east of Luxembourg City and connecting the A1 to the Croix de Gasperich, where it meets the A3 (to Dudelange) and A6 (towards Arlon, in Belgium). Erpeldange
Erpeldange-sur-Sûre ( lb, Ierpeldeng op der Sauer , german: Erpeldingen an der Sauer ) is a commune and small town in north-eastern Luxembourg. It lies along the river Sûre, between Ettelbruck and Diekirch. It is part of the canton of Diekirch. , the town of Erpeldange, which lies in the centre of the commune, has a population of 818. Other towns within the commune include Burden and Ingeldorf Erpeldange-sur-Sûre was formed on 1 July 1850, when it was detached from the commune of Ettelbruck, along with the commune of Schieren. The law forming Erpeldange-sur-Sûre was passed on the 22 January 1850. Erpeldange Castle now houses the commune's administrative offices. It has a history dating from the 13th century.
