1996 MLS Supplemental Draft
The 1996 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft was held on March 4, 1996, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. History As Major League Soccer prepared for its first season, the league began stocking teams with players. As the teams were being created at the same time, the league adopted a measured approach to building rosters. First, the league allocated four "big name" players to each team. Then on February 6 and 7, 1996, the league held its 1996 MLS Inaugural Player Draft. Over sixteen rounds, teams selected players from any source. Then on March 4, the league held a three-round 1996 MLS College Draft. The 1996 MLS Supplemental Draft was held later the same day. Major League Soccer
Major League Soccer (MLS) is a men's professional soccer league sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation, which represents the sport's highest level in the United States. The league comprises 29 teams—26 in the U.S. and 3 in Canada—since the 2023 season. The league is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. Major League Soccer is the most recent in a series of men's premier professional national soccer leagues established in the United States and Canada. The predecessor of MLS was the North American Soccer League (NASL), which existed from 1968 until 1984. Evans Wise CM (born November 23, 1973) is a Trinidadian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. His first professional club was the Tampa Bay Mutiny, who drafted him fourth overall in the 1996 MLS Supplemental Draft. Colorado Rapids
The Colorado Rapids are an American professional soccer club based in the Denver metropolitan area. The Rapids compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference. Founded in 1995, as part of the Anschutz Corporation, later to be a founding sports franchise of the global sports & entertainment juggernaut AEG, the club is a founding member of MLS, playing their first season in 1996. Mario Gori
Mario Gori (born June 1, 1973, in Rosario) is an Argentine football (soccer) midfielder who played professionally in Argentina and Major League Soccer. In 1993, Gori joined Rosario Central. On March 4, 1996, D.C. United selected Gori in the first round (eighth overall) of the 1996 MLS Supplemental Draft. Gori spent three seasons in D.C., winning the 1996 and 1997 MLS Cup and the 1998 CONCACAF Champions' Cup. In December 1998, D.C. sent Gori and its second round selection in the 1999 MLS College Draft to the Miami Fusion for Miami's 1999 MLS College Draft second round pick and Miami's first round pick in the 2000 MLS SuperDraft. Matthew Olson is a retired American soccer goalkeeper. Player College Olson graduated from Lindbergh Senior High School. In 1986, he began his collegiate career at Indiana University where he won the 1988 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. He then transferred to Wake Forest University where he played the 1989 (ACC Champions) and 1990 seasons (#4 Ranking, NCAA Tournament - 2nd round). Christopher Armas (born August 27, 1972) is an American professional soccer coach and former player. He is currently sharing interim head coach duties at Leeds United with Michael Skubala and Paco Gallardo after the sacking of Jesse Marsch.
