The 1996 season is the 10th season of the league that began on December 30, 1995, and concluded with the championship game on April 12, 1996. Team movement The Charlotte Cobras played their only season in 1996, in the process achieving the only winless season in the history of the league. National Lacrosse League
The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is a men's professional box lacrosse league in North America. The league is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The NLL currently has fifteen teams: ten in the United States and five in Canada. The NLL ranks third in average attendance for pro indoor sports worldwide, behind only the National Hockey League, NHL and National Basketball Association, NBA. Unlike other box lacrosse leagues which play in the summer, the NLL plays its games in the winter and spring, from December to June. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the National Lacrosse League Cup. The NLL has averaged between 8,900 and 10,700 spectators per game each year since 2004. Steve Dietrich
Steve "Chugger" Dietrich (born February 18, 1970 in Kitchener, Ontario) is the General Manager of the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League. Dietrich is also a NLL Hall of Fame goaltender who has played with the Calgary Roughnecks, Buffalo Bandits, Rochester Knighthawks, Detroit Turbos, Baltimore Thunder, and Toronto Rock. Professional career Dietrich played six seasons with each of the Bandits and Knighthawks. He led the Bandits to the NLL Championship game twice, in 2004 and 2006, and also won the Championship with the Knighthawks in 1997, when he was named Championship game MVP. He was named NLL Goaltender of the Year in both 2005 and 2006, and was the first goaltender to be named NLL MVP in 2006. On November 22, 2010, Dietrich announced his retirement as a player in the NLL to become the Toronto Rock's goaltending coach. Kevin Finneran
Kevin Finneran is an American lacrosse coach. In 2006, he was the head coach and general manager of Major League Lacrosse's Chicago Machine. Prior to becoming the team's first head coach Finneran had played in the MLL. He played with the Long Island Lizards from 2001 to 2004 and the Philadelphia Barrage in 2005. Kevin also played box lacrosse in the National Lacrosse League. He spent 12 years and won four NLL Championships with the Philadelphia Wings before signing as a free agent with the Toronto Rock, where he played one season and won another championship. Kevin played for Team USA in the Heritage Cup in both 2002 and 2004, and was named the captain of the 2004 team. Chris Driscoll
Chris Driscoll (born September 12, 1971) is a Canadian retired lacrosse player. Professional career Born in Fergus, Ontario, Driscoll began his career with the Detroit Turbos in 1993. He played with the Turbos for two seasons before they disbanded, and was claimed by Rochester in the resulting dispersal draft. Driscoll played four seasons in Rochester and during the 1999 season, he was traded to the Buffalo Bandits. Driscoll played the rest of that season plus two more in Buffalo, before being traded to the New York Saints in a seven-player deal. Driscoll played parts of two seasons with the Saints before being traded yet again, this time to the Toronto Rock for defenseman Scott Stapleford and three draft picks. Driscoll was given the National Lacrosse League Sportsmanship Award in 2003, and won an NLL championship with the Rock in 2005. Thomas Carmean
Thomas Carmean is the assistant coach of the Boys' NCAA lacrosse team at Keene State College in New Hampshire. Carmean is the former Guilford College Men's Lacrosse Team, a lacrosse alumnus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a former player for the Boston Blazers, New York Saints and Bridgeport Barrage, He is an inductee of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame, New England Chapter. He coached at Amherst College from 2000 through 2010 and was named the head men's lacrosse at Guilford College on June 2, 2010. Carmean Was named assistant coach of the Keene State Owls in 2022. In 2007, Carmean received accolades in an article where he was listed as one of the three best American-born attackmen to have ever played the game. Jim Veltman
James Edward "Scoop" Veltman (born March 8, 1966) is a Canadian former lacrosse player who played for the Toronto Rock, the Ontario Raiders, and the Buffalo Bandits in the National Lacrosse League. Veltman won three NLL championships with the Bandits and then five more with the Rock, where he was captain for ten seasons. He currently serves as the general manager of the New York Riptide. Tom Marechek
Tom "Hollywood" Marechek (born August 25, 1968 in Victoria, British Columbia) is a retired professional lacrosse player. College career Marechek played college lacrosse at Syracuse University where he teamed with Paul and Gary Gait to form one of the great college lacrosse squads in history, winning national title games in 1989 and 1990. Marechek is the fifth leading college goal scorers in lacrosse history with 182 goals, a four-time All-American, three-time first-team All-American pick, had 76 assists and 258 career points, scored 53 goals during his junior season to lead NCAA Division I, and set a Syracuse freshman record by scoring 46 goals on just 82 shots (56.1 per cent). Dallas Eliuk
Dallas Eliuk (born November 4, 1964 in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a former goaltender and assistant coach in the National Lacrosse League. Upon his retirement from play, Eliuk coached one season with the Portland LumberJax and two with the Colorado Mammoth. Dallas played for 18 years, 15 seasons for the Philadelphia Wings (1987–2014), Philadelphia Wings before being traded to the LumberJax (per his request), where he played for three seasons. Eliuk won four championships with the Wings, two championship MVP awards, was named to the All-Pro team nine times, and retired as the league's all-time leader in saves. Because of his success, his longevity, and unparalleled acrobatic athleticism, he is considered a legend in indoor lacrosse, and widely regarded as the best goalie to ever to play the game. John Tavares (lacrosse Player)
John Tavares (born September 4, 1968, in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian former professional box lacrosse player and current head coach of the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League (NLL). He is the NLL's all-time leading scorer and also a mathematics teacher at Philip Pocock Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He attended D'Youville College in Buffalo, New York. Tavares played his entire National Lacrosse League (NLL) career with the Buffalo Bandits, starting in their inaugural season in 1992. He was acquired from the Detroit Turbos in exchange for Brian Nikula in October 1991. Tavares was also the Professional Lacrosse Players' Association representative for the Bandits.
