As of 2022, the title was awarded to the winner of the SGP2 category at the FIM Speedway World Championship. In 1979, the Championship allowed riders from other continents to compete, but was renamed to the Speedway World Under 21 Championship in 1988. Kai Pekka Laukkanen (born 8 April 1975) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Finland. Career Laukkanen won the final running of the Intercontinental Final in 2001. He rode in 2004 Speedway Grand Prix and won the bronze medal in 2005 Individual Speedway European Championship. He is an eight times national champion of Finland after winning the Finnish Individual Speedway Championship in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006. Damian Baliński
Damian Baliński (born 5 August 1977, in Poland) is an international motorcycle speedway rider and a current member of Poland national team. He has ridden since 1994 with Unia Leszno. His older brother Dariusz and his son Damian Jr. (Damian's nephew; b. 1989) are also speedway riders. Baliński is married to Aneta. They have two sons, Mikołaj and Filip (b. 2009). Grzegorz Walasek
Grzegorz Walasek (born 29 August 1976) is a Polish motorcycle speedway rider who has ridden for the Polish national team and has also competed in the Speedway Grand Prix series. Career Born in Krosno Odrzańskie, Poland, Walasek began his senior career in 1993 with ZKŻ Zielona Góra, and won the Polish Under-21 Championship in 1997. In 2000, he began riding in the UK with Poole Pirates. In 2004, he won the senior Polish individual championship. He was part of the Polish team that won the Speedway World Cup in 2005 and 2007. Walasek rode in 22 Speedway Grand Prix, reaching one final and scoring a total of 138 points. For his sporting achievements, he received the Golden Cross of Merit in 2007. Wiesław Jaguś (born 13 September 1975) is a former Polish speedway rider. Career In August 2006, during the Speedway Grand Prix Qualification he won the GP Challenge, which ensured that he claimed a permanent slot for the 2007 Grand Prix. Nicki Pedersen
Nicki Pedersen (born 2 April 1977) is a Danish motorcycle speedway rider. He has won the World Championship in 2003, 2007 and 2008 and was a World Cup winner with Denmark in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. His brother, Ronni Pedersen, has also ridden in the Speedway Grand Prix and World Cup. Career Domestic teams Pedersen began speedway racing aged 11 at Danish club Fjelsted. He started his Polish speedway career in 1999 with Polish second division club Start Gniezno and has since ridden for GTŻ Grudziądz, Wybrzeże Gdańsk, ZKŻ Zielona Góra and ŻKS ROW Rybnik.
