1996 Cup Of Russia
The 1996 Cup of Russia was the sixth event of six in the 1996–97 ISU Champions Series, a senior-level international invitational competition series. It was held in Saint Petersburg on December 12–15. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Skaters earned points toward qualifying for the 1996–97 Champions Series Final. ISU Grand Prix Of Figure Skating
The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating (known as ISU Champions Series from 1995 to 1997) is a series of senior international figure skating competitions organized by the International Skating Union. The invitational series was inaugurated in 1995, incorporating several previously existing events. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of single skating, men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The junior-level equivalent is the ISU Junior Grand Prix. Evgeni Viktorovich Plushenko (, born 3 November 1982) is a Russian former figure skater. He is a four-time Olympic medalist (2006 gold, 2014 team gold, 2002 & 2010 silver), a three-time World champion (2001, 2003, 2004), a seven-time European champion (2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012), a four-time Grand Prix Final champion (1999–2000, 2000–01, 2002–03, 2004–05), and a ten-time Russian national champion (1999–2002, 2004–2006, 2010, 2012–2013). Krisztina Czakó (born 17 December 1978) is a Hungarian former figure skater. She is the 1997 European silver medalist and 1994 Skate Canada International champion. Career Czakó was born in Budapest, Hungary. Her mother Klara was a speed skater, while her father and coach György Czakó was himself a figure skater and a former Hungarian men's national champion. György began teaching Krisztina how to skate before she was a year old, making her a pair of skates himself when none could be found that were small enough to fit her. Czakó was the youngest athlete to compete in the 1992 Winter Olympics, at age 13 years and 2 months. Zuzanna Szwed (; 19 born July 1977) is a Polish former competitive figure skater. She is the 1994 Karl Schäfer Memorial champion, 1995 Finlandia Trophy silver medalist, and a five-time Polish national champion. She competed at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville. Personal life Zuzanna Szwed was born on 19 July 1977 in Warsaw, Poland. She married American pair skater Aaron Parchem in Chicago in 2004. They have a daughter, Sofie (born 2011). Elena Sergeyevna Sokolova (russian: Елена Сергеевна Соколова; born 15 February 1980) is a Russian former competitive figure skater. She is the 2003 World silver medalist, a three-time European medalist (2003–2004, 2006), and a three-time Russian national champion (2003–2004, 2006). Olga Dmitriyevna Markova (russian: Ольга Дмитриевна Маркова; born 22 January 1974) is a Russian former competitive figure skater who currently works as a coach, choreographer, and technical specialist. She is a two-time European medalist (bronze in 1994 and silver in 1995), and the 1994 Russian national champion. Career Markova drew attention for her avant garde style and choreography. Julia Lautowa (russian: Юлия Лаутова; born 5 October 1981) is an Austrian former competitive figure skater in ladies' singles. Michael Johannes Malmin Tyllesen (born 27 August 1973) is a Danish former competitive figure skater. He is the 1997 Skate Canada International bronze medalist, a two-time Piruetten champion, and a two-time Nordic champion. Career Tyllesen was a member of Gladsaxe Skøjteløber Forening. Andrejs Vlaščenko (russian: Андрей Влащенко; born 15 June 1974) is a figure skater who represented Latvia (1992–94) and Germany (1994–04). Competing for Germany, he won two Grand Prix medals – bronze at both the 2001 Trophee Lalique and at the 1998 Sparkassen Cup on Ice – and became a four-time German national champion. Steven Cousins (born 24 May 1972) is a British former competitive men's singles figure skater. He is the 1993 Skate Canada International bronze medalist and an eight-time British national champion. He finished as high as 6th at the Olympics (1998), 7th at the World Championships (1998), and 4th at the European Championships ( 1996).
