Iajuddin Ahmed
Iajuddin Ahmed (1 February 193110 December 2012) was the President of Bangladesh, serving from 6 September 2002 until 12 February 2009. From late October 2006 to January 2007, he also served as Chief Advisor of the caretaker government. From October 2006 to early 2008, his responsibilities as president included the Defense Ministry of the caretaker government. With a doctorate in soil science, Ahmed became a full professor at the University of Dhaka and chairman of the department. Beginning in 1991, he started accepting appointments to public positions, as chairman of the Public Service Commission (1991 to 1993) and of the University Grants Commission (1995 to 1999). In 2002 he won election as president. In 2004 he helped establish the private university, Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology (ADUST). Abdul Karim (historian)
Abdul Karim ( – 24 July 2007) was a Bangladeshi historian. He served as the 5th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chittagong. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh. Early life Karim was born on 1 June 1928. In 1944 he completed his High Madrasa Examination and in 1946 his Intermediate Arts Examination. He completed his BA from University of Dhaka in 1949 and his masters in 1950. Career Karim joined the University of Dhaka as a lecturer in 1951. He was mentored by Ahmad Hasan Dani. He later went to the UK to earn his Ph.D and finished it in 1958. His desertion topic was ''Social History of the Muslims in Bengal''. He completed a second PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. In 1966, he joined Chittagong University as Chairman of the Department of History. Rathindranath Roy
Rathindranath Roy is a Bangladeshi musician. He was a performer in Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. Roy sang Bhawaiya songs from the Rangpur area. He is also a playback singer. He has won awards like BACHSHASH (Bangladesh Cine Journalists Society) Award in 1979 and 1981, and Ekushey Padak in 1994. Early life and education Roy passed SSC examination in 1960 and passed HSC from Dhaka College. He then enrolled into department of Bengali Literature in the University of Dhaka in 1968. Career Roy began his career as an artist in 1960. He became a regular singer on radio and television. He learnt music from his father Harolal Roy and PC Gomez. Mustafa Zaman Abbasi
Mustafa Zaman Abbasi (born 8 December 1936) is a Bangladeshi musicologist. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh. Abbasi is the youngest son of folk singer-composer Abbas Uddin Ahmed. As of 2016, he serves as a senior research scholar at the "Kazi Nazrul Islam and Abbasuddin Research and Study Centre" of Independent University, Bangladesh. Background Abbasi is the third son of Abbasuddin Ahmed. His eldest brother Mustafa Kamal was the Chief Justice of Bangladesh. His sister Ferdausi Rahman is a playback singer. Abbasi was trained by Indian classical musicians including Ustad Muhammad Hussain Khasru and Ustad Gul Mohammad Khan. Works Abbasi has published more than fifty books in total. Rawshan Jamil
Rawshan Jamil (8 May 1931 – 14 May 2002) was a Bangladeshi actress and dancer. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in the dance category in 1995 and Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film '' Noyonmoni'' (1976). Early life and education Jamil was born in Dhaka. Her father was Abdul Karim. After passing the matriculation exam, Jamil got admission at Shilpakala Bhavan in Wari. Ahmed Rafiq
Ahmed Rafiq (born 12 September 1929) is a Bangladeshi language movement activist, writer and researcher on Rabindranath Tagore and his literature. He achieved Ekushey Padak in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh. Tagore Research Institute in Kolkata conferred the ''Rabindratattacharya'' title on him in 2011. Syed Mohammad Ali
Syed Mohammad Ali (9 December 1928 – 17 October 1993) was a Bengali journalist and editor. Ali began his career in East Pakistan. He became an editor for several newspapers in East Asia, including ''The Bangkok Post'' in Thailand, the ''Hong Kong Standard'' in British Hong Kong and ''The New Nation'' in Singapore. Ali also worked for UNESCO. In 1991, Ali founded '' The Daily Star'' in Bangladesh during the country's democratic transition. Zakaria Pintoo
Zakaria Pintoo (born 1 January 1943) is a Bangladeshi retired professional footballer who played as a defender. Career Pintoo played for the Pakistan football team before independence. He served as the captain of Shadhin Bangla Football Team in 1971 and went on to become the first captain of the Bangladesh national football team after the independence of the country. He received the Independence Day Award (1995) in the sports category by the Government of Bangladesh. During tour with the Shadhin Bangla Football Team in India, in 1971, he became the first person to hoist the Bangladesh flag in foreign land. Syed Iqbal Mand Banu
Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu is a social worker and mother-in-law of Tarique Rahman. She was awarded the Independence Day Award in 1995. She had published poetry books she and does watercolor paintings. Ferdausi Rahman
Ferdausi Rahman (; born 28 June 1941) also known as Ferdausi Begum is a Bangladeshi playback singer. She is the daughter of folk singer Abbas Uddin. She sang some popular film songs for Pakistani films also in the 1960s especially working with the music composer Robin Ghosh in film Chakori released in 1967. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1977 and Independence Day Award in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh.
