These are the official results of the 100 metres, Women's 100 metres event at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics, 1995 IAAF World Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. There were a total number of 58 participating athletes, with two semi-finals, four quarter-finals and eight qualifying heats and the final held on Monday 7 August 1995. The winner, Gwen Torrence of the United States, made history as the first mother to win 100 metre gold at the World Championships. 100 Metres
The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1928 for women. The inaugural World Championships were in 1983. The reigning 100 m Olympic or world champion is often named "the fastest man or woman in the world". Fred Kerley and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are the reigning world champions; Marcell Jacobs and Elaine Thompson-Herah are the men's and women's Olympic champions. On an outdoor 400-metre running track, the 100 m is held on the home straight, with the start usually being set on an extension to make it a straight-line race. Gabriele Becker (born 17 April 1975) is a German former track and field sprinter who competed mainly over 100 metres. She represented her country at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics and won a bronze medal in the relay. Born in Marburg, Becker took up track and field at a young age and trained at the LAZ Bruchköbel sports club. Initially she took part in a variety of events and completed youth heptathlons, but soon focused on sprinting instead. Natalya Voronova (russian: Ната́лья Помо́щникова-Во́ронова, née Pomoshchnikova; born July 9, 1965) is a retired Russian sprint athlete who competed in the 100 and 200 metres for the Soviet Union and later Russia.
