1995 World Championships In Athletics – Men's Triple Jump
These are the official results of the Men's Triple Jump event at the 1995 IAAF World Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. There were a total number of 44 participating athletes, with two qualifying groups and the final held on Monday August 7, 1995. Almost three weeks before this championship, Jonathan Edwards had just marginally improved upon Willie Banks' ten year old world record (17.97m), by jumping 17.98m in Salamanca. In the preliminary round he was not even the #1 qualifier, edged out by Jérôme Romain. On his first trip down the runway in the final, Edwards became the first athlete in the world to jump further than 18 metres without wind assistance, registering a world record jump of 18.16 m. Ndabazinhle Mdhlongwa (born May 30, 1973) is a retired Zimbabwean triple jumper. He was the African record holder with 17.34 metres from 1998 to 2007. Oleg Sakirkin
Oleg Evgyenevich Sakirkin ( kz, Олег Евгеневич Сакиркин; 23 January 1966 – 18 March 2015) was a triple jumper from Shymkent, Ongutsik Qazaqstan, who represented the USSR and later Kazakhstan. His greatest achievement came in 1987 when he won the World Championship bronze medal with a personal best jump of 17.43 metres. He went on to win the 1988 European Indoor Championships (17.30 m) and the 1994 Asian Games (17.21 m). Paul Roger Nioze (born 19 March 1967) is a Seychellois former triple jumper who competed at the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics, finishing in 22nd and 39th place, respectively. He is the 1996 African Champion and the national record holder. Furthermore, he was named the Seychelles Sportsman of the Year in 1996, and retired in 2000. He is currently the manager of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Indian Ocean regional office, overseeing work in five countries in Southeastern Africa.
