1995 Women's Champions Trophy (field Hockey)
The 1995 Women's Hockey Champions Trophy was the 5th edition of the Hockey Champions Trophy for women. It was held between 9–17 September 1995 in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Australia won the tournament for the third consecutive time after defeating South Korea 4–3 in the final on penalty strokes after a 1–1 draw. Mar del Plata is a city on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. It is the seat of General Pueyrredón district. Mar del Plata is the second largest city in Buenos Aires Province. Kate Ruth "Katie" Allen (born 28 February 1974) is an Australian field hockey player. She was a member of the Australia women's national field hockey team that won gold medals at Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games and World Cup in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Richard Ian Charlesworth AO (born 6 February 1952) is an Australian sports coach and former politician. He played first-class cricket for Western Australia and international field hockey for the Kookaburras (the Australian national team), winning a silver medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Charlesworth served as a federal member of parliament from 1983 to 1993, representing the Labor Party. After leaving politics, he was appointed coach of the Hockeyroos (the national women's field hockey team), leading them to Olympic gold medals in 1996 and 2000.
