In the third and final year of the Bowl Coalition era, the Coalition failed to achieve its goal of a true national championship game between the nation's top two teams. The Coalition's designated championship game for the 1994 season, the 1995 Orange Bowl, pitted No. 1 Nebraska against No. 3 Miami (FL), while No. 2 Penn State was tied to the Rose Bowl as a member of the Big Ten Conference. Jay Barker (born Harry Jerome Barker on July 20, 1972) is a retired professional American football quarterback. He is currently a Birmingham radio personality. Football career Barker attended Hewitt-Trussville High School in Trussville, Alabama, where his football career began. He graduated in 1990. Barker played college football at the University of Alabama, under head coach Gene Stallings. In the final game of the 1992 season, Barker led the Crimson Tide to a national championship by defeating the #1 Miami Hurricanes, 34–13, in the 1993 Sugar Bowl. Bobby Hoying (born September 20, 1972) is a former college and professional American football quarterback. He is the grandson of baseball player Wally Post, who played 15 years in the Major Leagues. Post was an outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds 1961 National League pennant winning team. High school career Hoying grew up in Mercer County, Ohio, attending St. Henry High School, where he won one football and two basketball state championships. He had college basketball offers from the University of Toledo and other colleges. College career Hoying played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
