1995 Australia Day Honours
The 1995 Australia Day Honours are appointments to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by Australian citizens. The list was announced on 26 January 1995 by the Governor General of Australia, Bill Hayden. The Australia Day Honours are the first of the two major annual honours lists, the first announced to coincide with Australia Day (26 January), with the other being the Queen's Birthday Honours, which are announced on the second Monday in June. † indicates an award given posthumously. Australian Honours System
The Australian honours and awards system refers to all Order (distinction), orders, decorations, and medals, as instituted by letters patent from the Monarchy of Australia, Monarch of Australia and countersigned by the Australian prime minister at the time, that have been progressively introduced since 14 February 1975. The Australian honours and awards system excludes all state and local government, and private, issued awards and medals (although a few can be recognised in the Australian Honours Order of Wearing, order of wearing, like those in the Order of Saint John (chartered 1888), Order of St John). Honours and awards have been present in Australia since pre-Federation of Australia, Federation, primarily from the Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom, Imperial honours and awards system. Stewart Cockburn
Alexander Stewart Cockburn (16 October 1921 – 6 July 2009) was an Australian journalist, commentator and author from Adelaide, South Australia. History Cockburn was the only child of journalist Rodney Cockburn and his second wife, Ruby Ethel, née Adams. (Her first husband, Lieut. Melville Farmer, was killed in action in the First World War.) Concetta Benn
Concetta "Connie" Benn AM ( Megna; 12 December 1926 – 18 March 2011) was an Australian social worker. Born in Melbourne to a family of Italian migrants, Benn is best known for her work with the Brotherhood of St Laurence and created a new theory of social work called developmental approach. She was the first Research Officer for the Leader of the Opposition in the state of Victoria where she helped bring in amendments to the state's Social Welfare Act. In her retirement she accepted positions for various organisations. Benn was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1995, and was added to the Victorian Honour Roll of Women seven years later. Lionel Barrie Woodward, (born 9 October 1942) is a retired senior Australian public servant. Life and career Woodward was born in Sydney on 9 October 1942. Imelda Joan Roche (born ) and her last husband, Bill Roche (2022), is an Australian entrepreneur and property investor who established Nutrimetics International (Australia) Pty Limited in 1968. Joseph Martin Riordan AO (27 February 193019 November 2012) was an Australian politician and briefly government minister. Early years Riordan was born in Sydney, raised as a Catholic, and educated at Patrician Brothers School and Marist Brother College in that city. Sir Rupert Horace Myers, (21 February 1921 – 21 February 2019) was an Australian metallurgist, academic and university administrator, who was the third vice-chancellor of the University of New South Wales from 1969 to 1981. Irene Moss
Irene Kwong Moss (born 1948) is an Australian solicitor and former public servant. She graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts (Government) and a Bachelor of Laws and from Harvard Law School with a Master of Laws, and became a solicitor at the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia.
