Comic Book Collecting
Comic book collecting is a hobby that treats comic books and related items as collectibles or artwork to be sought after and preserved. Though considerably more recent than the collecting of postage stamps (philately) or books (bibliophilia), it has a major following around the world today and is partially responsible for the increased interest in comics after the temporary slump experienced during the 1980s. Overview Comics are collected for several possible reasons, including appreciation, nostalgia, financial profit, and completion of the collection. The comic book came to light in the pop culture arena in the 1930s due to the popularity of superhero characters Superman, Batman, and Captain Marvel. Ominous Press
Bart Whitman Sears (born 1963) is an American comics artist, toy and packaging designer and author, known for his work on such books as ''Justice League Europe'', '' Legends of the Dark Knight'', ''X-O Manowar'', ''Turok'', '' Violator'', ''The Helm'' and The Masters. Career In addition to comic art, Sears has worked as a designer of action figures and packaging, most notably for Hasbro on the C.O.P.S., G.I. Joe, and World Wrestling Federation toy lines and on many of the early X-Men action figures for ToyBiz. Sears ran his own comic company briefly in 1994, called Ominous Press, which published three creator owned titles. In 2000, he joined CrossGen as an artist, and was later promoted to act as one of the company's art directors. ''Het Laatste Nieuws'' (; in English ''The Latest News'') is a Dutch-language newspaper based in Antwerp, Belgium. It was founded by Julius Hoste Sr. on 7 June 1888. It is now part of DPG Media, and is the most popular newspaper in Flanders and Belgium. History and profile The liberal Julius Hoste Sr. founded the newspaper on 7 June 1888 five days before the Belgian elections. With his newspaper he wanted to support the Liberal Party in the upcoming elections and on the other side the Flemish movement in Brussels, a city which was dominated by francophone bourgeois (''Franskiljons''). Sigmund (comics)
Doctor Sigmund is a Dutch gag-a-day comic strip, created by Peter de Wit. It centers around a short-sized psychiatrist who constantly fails to provide his patients with proper help. History ''Sigmund'' made his first appearance in an educational TV documentary series for Teleac about the art of drawing comics, presented by Dutch comics artists Hanco Kolk and Peter de Wit. The episode aired on Dutch television in 1992 and dealt with gag-a-day comics. De Wit explained he came up with an idea for a gag-a-day starring a dwarf-like, one-eyed psychiatrist whose cynical attitude towards his patient causes them to hate him. The series was originally called "Mensch, durf te leeven" (after a 1919 song of the same name), but was later changed to the character's name ''Sigmund'', a nod to Sigmund Freud. Sirius Entertainment was an American comic book company which operated from 1994 to 2007. Sirius Entertainment was founded by Robb Horan, Joseph Michael Linsner, and Larry Salamone, Fassbender, Tom. Event Comics was an American independent comic book publisher founded by veteran artists Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada. The company published during the years 1994 to 1999, at which point it was contracted to form the Marvel Knights imprint for Marvel Comics. William Tucci is an illustrator, writer, and filmmaker best known for his creator-owned title and character, '' Shi''. Career Tucci founded Crusade Comics in Bayport, New York Its flagship title, '' Shi'', debuted in March 1994. Publisher Top Cow's character Witchblade and David Mack's character Kabuki debuted in ''Shi'' before going on to their own titles. Tucci wrote and illustrated ''Shi: Return of the Warrior" and wrote "Zombie-Sama!'', a comedy graphic novel with illustrator John Broglia, both published by Crusade Fine Arts. In 2006 Tucci began pencilling Marvel Comics' ''Heroes for Hire'', and DC's VS cards, and later on the DC series ''Jonah Hex'', ''Birds of Prey'', ''Flash Vs. Superman'' and ''Harley Quinn''. Chaos! Comics was a comic book publisher that operated from 1993 until 2002, mostly focusing on horror comics.
