1994 Copa Interamericana
The 1996 Copa Interamericana was the 16th. edition of the Copa Interamericana. The final took place between Argentine club Vélez Sarsfield and Costa Rican side Club Sport Cartaginés and was staged over two legs on February 17 and February 24, 1996. Copa Interamericana
The Copa Interamericana ( en, Interamerican Cup) was an annual club football competition contested between a representative from North America (CONCACAF) and South America (CONMEBOL). Established in 1969, it was discontinued in 1998 after CONCACAF clubs, particularly those from Mexico, began participating in CONMEBOL competitions. The competition was intended to be contested between the winners of the North American CONCACAF Champions Cup and the South American Copa Libertadores tournaments, although the participants varied at times. The competition was usually contested over a two legged tie, with a playoff or penalty kicks if necessary. However, it was common for several consecutive editions to go unheld. Of the 18 competitions played out, four of them were contested over several matches in just one venue. Two others were held in a single match. José Luis Chilavert
José Luis Félix Chilavert González (; born 27 July 1965) is a Paraguayan former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Sportivo Luqueño, Guaraní, San Lorenzo de Almagro, Real Zaragoza, Vélez Sarsfield, RC Strasbourg, Peñarol, and the Paraguay national football team. Chilavert won 12 club titles, including the 1994 Copa Libertadores and the 1994 Intercontinental Cup, while playing for Vélez Sarsfield, and is a three-time IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper award winner. Carlos Daniel "Lobo" Cordone (born 6 January 1974), is a former Argentine professional football player who played as a striker. Cordone started his career at Vélez Sársfield and played there for six seasons before moving to Racing Club de Avellaneda in 2000. Sebastián Ariel Méndez Pardiñas (born 4 July 1977) is an Argentine football manager and former player who played as a central defender. He is the current manager of Unión de Santa Fe. Claudio Husaín
Claudio Daniel Husaín (born 20 November 1974) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Husaín played for Vélez Sársfield and River Plate in Argentina, Italian S.S.C. Napoli and Mexican Tigres de la UANL before returning to Argentina to Newell's Old Boys. Martín Andrés Posse Paz (born 2 August 1975) is an Argentine football manager and former player. He played mainly as a forward. Fernando Daniel Pandolfi (born May 29, 1974 in Buenos Aires) is a former Argentine football striker who played most of his career for Argentine Primera División club Vélez Sarsfield. Patricio Alejandro Camps (born January 22, 1972 in Buenos Aires) is a former Argentine football player. He is of Ukrainian descent. Club career Camps joined Velez as a 14 years old in 1986, he made his breakthrough into the first team in 1991. He was part of four Argentine league championship campaigns and also won three international championships. Guillermo Carlos Morigi (born March 1, 1974) is an Argentine former professional football left winger who played for Vélez Sársfield in the Primera División Argentina throughout most of his career. He was part of the team during its most successful years, the 1990s. Club career Morigi was born in Caseros, Buenos Aires province. Marcelo Adrián Gómez (born 8 December 1970) is an Argentine football manager and former player who played as a defensive midfielder. Raúl Ernesto Cardozo (born 28 October 1967) is a former Argentine football defender who is one of the most important players in the history of Vélez Sársfield. Career Cardozo, nicknamed ''Pacha'' was born in Morón and started his playing career with Vélez Sársfield during the 1986–87 season. He went on to play over 350 games for the club. He played during the golden era of the club in the mid-1990s when they won 9 major titles.
