Margrethe II Of Denmark
Margrethe II (; Margrethe Alexandrine Þórhildur Ingrid, born 16 April 1940) is Queen of Denmark. Having reigned as Denmark's monarch for over 50 years, she is Europe's longest-serving current head of state and the world's only incumbent female monarch following the death of Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Born into the House of Glücksburg, a cadet branch of the House of Oldenburg, Margrethe is the eldest child of Frederick IX of Denmark and Ingrid of Sweden. She became heir presumptive to her father in 1953, when a constitutional amendment allowed women to inherit the throne. Margrethe succeeded her father upon his death on 14 January 1972. On her accession, she became the first female monarch of Denmark since Margrethe I, ruler of the Scandinavian kingdoms in 1375–1412 during the Kalmar Union. Denmark Women's National Handball Team
The Denmark women's national handball team is the national team of Denmark. It is governed by the Dansk Håndbold Forbund (DHF). In 1997, it became the first Women's Handball team to hold all three major titles simultaneously (The World Championship, The Olympic Championship and The European Championship). Denmark women's handball team is the only team (women's and men's) in handball history to win the Olympic Games three consecutive times, earning the gold medal in 1996, 2000, and 2004. Despite tremendous results, the Danish handball team has seen a steady decline. As of 2021, the team has not won a gold medal since the Olympic Games 2004. However, at the World Championship 2013, the team won its first medal (bronze) at a World Championship since 1997 when the team won gold. Dan Turèll
Dan Turèll (March 19, 1946 – October 15, 1993), affectionately nicknamed "Onkel Danny" (''Uncle Danny''), was a popular Danish writer with notable influence on Danish literature. Influenced by the Beat Generation his work crossed a number of genres including autobiography, Beat literature and crime fiction. Overview Dan Turèll grew up in Vangede, which at that time was a town outside Copenhagen surrounded by fields; today it is a part of Greater Copenhagen. He died from esophageal cancer and is buried at Assistens Cemetery. On Sunday March 19, 2006, on what would have been his 60th birthday, part of the town square of ''Halmtorvet'' in Copenhagen was named ''Onkel Dannys Plads'' (English: ''Uncle Danny's Square'') in Dan Turèlls honour and remembrance. Henry Heerup
Henry Heerup (4 November 1907 – 30 May 1993) was a Danish painter, graphic artist and sculptor. Heerup was an extremely versatile artist. His works of art included paintings, lithographs, stone sculptures, linoleum cuts and drawings as well as objects which he composed from scrap. Biography Henry Heerup was born in Frederiksberg, Denmark. Heerup was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1926 and graduated in 1932. He studied painting under Axel Jørgensen and Einar Nielsen at the Royal Danish Academy of Art. He also studied sculpture under Einar Utzon-Frank. He painted ''The Old Oak in Wolfvalley'' (1924) whichj was his first oil painting. During the 1930s he developed his trash sculptures. During the 1940s he became a member of Corner and Høst and exhibited with them. In 1949 he joined COBRA and participated in some of their exhibitions. Robert Jacobsen
Robert Julius Tommy Jacobsen (4 June 1912 – 26 January 1993) was a Danish sculptor and painter. The Danish Robert Award is named in his honor. Biography Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen. He was self-taught as a sculptor. During World War I, he worked with Danish modernist artists such as Asger Jorn, Carl-Henning Pedersen and Egill Jacobsen. They participated in the circle around the journal ''Helhesten'' and would later come to make up the COBRA-movement. Although Jacobsen had a connection with the CoBrA artists, but he never was a member of their group. In this period he created massive granite and sandstone structures which he called "Mythical Creatures" (Danish: ''Fabeldyr ''). In the late 1940s, he creates a group of sculptures which he called "Dolls" (Danish: ''Dukkerne''). He traveled to France with his colleague Richard Mortensen and lived there from 1947–69.
