1991 World Table Tennis Championships
The 1991 World Table Tennis Championships were held in Chiba from April 24 to May 6, 1991. North Korea and South Korea fielded a unified team under the name Korea (コリア ''Koria''), the first of all Unified Korean sporting teams. The women's Korean team captured the gold medal by topping China, winners of eight consecutive titles since 1975, 3–2 in the final. Results Team Individual Unified team of Korea Prior to the competition, North and South Korea discussed the possibility of the first unified football and table tennis teams since Korea's division. Steffen Fetzner
Steffen Fetzner is a male former table tennis player from Germany. From 1989 to 2000 he won several medals in doubles, and team events in the Table Tennis European Championships, in the World Table Tennis Championships, and in the Table Tennis World Cup. Qiao Hong (; born November 21, 1968 in Wuhan, Hubei) is a former female Chinese table tennis player. She is now the coach of the women's national table tennis team and a member of the Chinese Olympic Committee. Table tennis career She won four Olympic medals including two gold medals. Gao Jun
Gao Jun (; born January 25, 1969) is a Chinese American table tennis player. Biography Gao Jun was born in Baoding, Hebei province of China. She now resides in Southern California. She is the owner of California Table Tennis club in Rosemead, CA. She won a silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in the women's double event, with Chen Zihe for the Chinese National Team. She moved to the U.S. in 1994 and became a U.S. citizen. She competed for the United States in three consecutive Olympic Games from 2000 to 2008. In 2009, Gao was inducted into the USATT Hall of Fame. Gao is a nine-time U.S. women's champion. She also has won eleven U.S. national titles in women's doubles and eight titles in mixed doubles with various partners. She was ranked number 1 in the U.S. prior to the 2012 London Olympics but pulled out of the North American Olympic trials due to an injury. Deng Yaping
Deng Yaping (; born February 6, 1973) is a Chinese table tennis player, who won eighteen world championships including four Olympic championships between 1989 and 1997. She is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. Early life and education Deng was born in Zhengzhou, Henan, on February 6, 1973. Career Deng began playing table tennis at age of five, and four years later she won the provincial junior championship. She was age 13 when she won her first national championship. Despite her success, she was initially denied a spot on the national team because she was so short (she stood only 1.5 metres  feet 11 inchestall).
