1993 PBA Governors' Cup
The 1993 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors' Cup was the third and last conference of the 1993 PBA season. It started on September 26 and ended on December 14, 1993. The tournament is an Import-laden format, which requires an import or a pure-foreign player for each team. The tournament features a handicapping rule which allows teams that failed to reach the semifinals for the last two conference to have an import with a 6'6" height limit. The other teams will be allowed with a 6'3" import. Format The following format will be observed for the duration of the conference: *The teams were divided into 2 groups. PBA On Vintage Sports
The PBA on Vintage Sports was a branding used for presentation of Philippine Basketball Association games produced by Vintage Sports, a sports-oriented media company and was aired on Philippine television networks City2 Television from 1982 to 1984, Maharlika Broadcasting System (later renamed as People's Television Network) from 1985 to 1995, and Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation from 1996 to 1999. History In 1982, the PBA awarded the broadcast rights of its games to Vintage Enterprises, Inc., a company owned by Carlos "Bobong" Velez and signed a P5.4 million deal with the league. Games were aired on City2 Television, with the second game of a doubleheader aired live and the first game followed afterwards on a delayed basis. Pop Cola Panthers
The Pop Cola Panthers were a professional basketball team that played in the Philippine Basketball Association from 1990-2001. The franchise was owned by RFM Corporation. In 2001, when RFM Corporation sold its entire stake in Cosmos Bottling Corporation to Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc. (CCBPI), the PBA franchise was included in the transaction. Upon ownership by CCBPI, the PBA franchise renamed the Coca-Cola Tigers beginning the 2002 PBA season and was considered as an expansion team. The franchise also played under the names Pop Cola/Diet Sarsi Sizzlers, Swift Mighty Meaty Hotdogs, Swift Mighty Meaties, Sunkist Orange Juicers/Bottlers and Pop Cola 800s. Cuneta Astrodome
The Cuneta Astrodome is an indoor arena that is located in Pasay, Philippines. Since the 1993 PBA season, it was better known as the home of the Philippine Basketball Association. when it left the PhilSports Arena (that was then known as ULTRA), up until the 1998 PBA season, 1998 and since 2001 PBA season, 2001. It hosts the local basketball league sports competition. It has also hosted a slew of other political, evangelical gatherings and church anniversaries. It is also the permanent home of the Philippine Super Liga since 2014. Despite its name, the Cuneta Astrodome is not a dome-shaped indoor arena, since its exterior is rectangular in shape. 1993 Swift Mighty Meaties Season
The 1993 Swift Mighty Meaties season was the 4th season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Summary In the All-Filipino Cup, Swift won their last two games in the eliminations and swept all four of their quarterfinal assignments for a six-game winning streak going into their best-of-five semifinal series against Coney Island (formerly Purefoods). The Mighty Meaties won twice over the Ice Cream Stars in two previous meetings only to be swept in three games by Coney Island in their semifinal series. Swift has found the right import in Ronnie Thompkins after sending home their original choice Ledell Eackles, a starter from the Washington Bullets in the NBA who was overweight when he came here. The Mighty Meaties won their first six games in the Commissioner's Cup and emerge with the best record in the eliminations with nine wins and two losses.
