The 1993 Milan–San Remo was the 84th edition of the Milan–San Remo cycle race and was held on 20 March 1993. The race started in Milan and finished in San Remo. The race was won by Maurizio Fondriest of the Lampre team. Maurizio Fondriest
Maurizio Fondriest (born 15 January 1965) is a retired Italy, Italian professional road racing cyclist. Career Born in Cles, Trentino, Fondriest turned professional in 1987 with the Ecoflam team. He subsequently rode for Alfa Lum cycling team, Alfa-Lum in 1988, winning the UCI Road World Championships – Men's road race, World Cycling Championships along with stages in the Tour de Suisse and Tirreno–Adriatico. In 1991, riding for Panasonic, he won the UCI Road World Cup. In 1993, riding for the Lampre team, he won Milan–San Remo, La Flèche Wallonne, the Züri-Metzgete, the Giro dell'Emilia, the general classification and two stages of Tirreno–Adriatico, three stages and the general classification of the Grand Prix du Midi Libre, a stage in the Giro d'Italia and the overall World Cup. Rolf Sørensen
Rolf Sørensen (born 20 April 1965) is a former Danish professional road bicycle racer. He is currently working as a cycling commentator and agent. Born in Helsinge in Denmark, Sørensen moved to Italy at the age of 17, where he has lived since. He was a client of Francesco Conconi and Luigi Cecchini. He goes under the name ''Il Biondo'' due to his blonde hair. He is married to Susanne. Accomplishments Sørensen won such classic one-day races as the Tour of Flanders, Liège–Bastogne–Liège, Paris–Brussels, Paris–Tours and Milano–Torino, as well as slightly smaller races like the Coppa Bernocchi (twice), and the Rund um den Henninger Turm or Grand Prix Frankfurt. He has led the UCI Road World Cup on several occasions, finishing third in 1989 and 1991 and second in 1997 after a broken foot kept him from scoring points in the last two World Cup races of the season. Mario Cipollini
Mario Cipollini (; born 22 March 1967), often abbreviated to "Cipo", is a retired Italian professional road cyclist most noted for his sprinting ability, the longevity of his dominance (his first pro win came in 1988, his last in 2005; 170 professional wins, 192 including criteriums) and his colourful personality. His nicknames include ''Il Re Leone'' (''The Lion King'') and ''Super Mario''. He is regarded as the best sprinter of his generation. Davide Cassani
Davide Cassani (born 1 January 1961) is a former road cyclist and cycling commentator on Italian television from Italy. Now he works as manager for Italy national cycling team. He was born in Faenza. In 1982 he made his professional debut with Termolan-Galli. In 1986 he moved to Carrera, where he supported figures such as Claudio Chiappucci, Roberto Visentini and Stephen Roche; Cassani later raced for Gewiss-Bianchi, Ariostea, GB-MG and Saeco. He retired in 1996 after being hit by a car in training. Media work After retiring from cycling, he became a commentator at Italian public broadcaster RAI. Jean-Claude Colotti (born 1 July 1961) is a French former professional road bicycle racer (from 1986 to 1996). Colotti won a stage in the 1992 Tour de France. He was part of a breakaway that finished about fifteen minutes ahead of the peloton. Colotti went on a solo attack and beat 2nd place finisher Frans Maassen by more than three minutes. Franco Ballerini
Franco Ballerini (11 December 1964 – 7 February 2010) was an Italian road racing cyclist. Born in Florence, his greatest exploits as a rider came with his two victories in the cycling classic Paris–Roubaix, riding for the Mapei cycling team. In 1993 he was beaten on the line by Gilbert Duclos-Lassalle in an exciting Paris–Roubaix finale. Also on his palmarès or list of accomplishments there are other one-day races such as Omloop Het Volk and Paris–Brussels. Ballerini then became manager of the Italian national cycling squad, winning the 2002 World Championships with Mario Cipollini and the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens with ex-teammate Paolo Bettini. Laurent Jalabert (born 30 November 1968) is a French former professional road racing cyclist, from 1989 to 2002. Affectionately known as ''"Jaja"'' (slang for a glass of wine; when he continued drinking wine as a professional, the nickname stuck because of the similarity to his name), he won many one-day and stage races and was ranked number 1 in the world in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999. Although he never won the Tour de France, where he suffered altitude sickness, he won the Vuelta a España in 1995; as well as the leader's jersey, he won the sprinter's jersey and climber's jersey in the same race — only the third rider to have done this in a Grand Tour. Luca Gelfi
Luca Gelfi (21 June 1966 - 3 January 2009) was an Italian racing cyclist. A professional from 1988 to 1998, he won two stages of the 1990 Giro d'Italia and one of the 1997 Volta a Portugal. He finished second in the 1993 Milan-Sanremo. After retiring in 1998, he owned and operated a bike shop and directed Team Fratelli Giorgi, a prestigious junior cycling team. UAE Team Emirates
UAE Team Emirates () is an Emirati road bicycle racing team. The team competes at UCI WorldTeam level and has done so since the UCI World Tour was formed as the top category of road cycling in 2005. However the team was temporarily suspended from the ProTour in 2010, missing one ProTour event.
