1993 DFB-Pokal Final
The 1993 DFB-Pokal Final decided the winner of the 1992–93 DFB-Pokal, the 50th season of Germany's premier knockout football cup competition. It was played on 12 June 1993 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Hertha BSC's second team, playing in the third division, made it to the final against Bayer Leverkusen, making it the first and only time a reserve side has made it to the final, as second teams have since been disallowed from entering the competition. Leverkusen won the match 1–0 to claim their first cup title. Route to the final The DFB-Pokal began with 83 teams in a single-elimination knockout cup competition. There were a total of five rounds leading up to the final. Teams were drawn against each other, and the winner after 90 minutes would advance. If still tied, 30 minutes of extra time was played. Bye (sports)
In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament, without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments they can be granted either to reward the highest ranked participant(s) or assigned randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32). In round-robin tournaments, usually one competitor gets a bye in each round when there are an odd number of competitors, as it is impossible for all competitors to play in the same round. However, over the whole tournament, each plays the same number of games as well as sitting out for the same number of rounds. Martin Kree (born 27 January 1965) is a German former footballer, who played mostly as a central defender. During a 15-year professional career, Kree played 401 Bundesliga games for VfL Bochum, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund. Captain (association Football)
The team captain of an association football team, sometimes known as the skipper, is a team member chosen to be the on-pitch leader of the team; they are often one of the older or more experienced members of the squad, or a player that can heavily influence a game or has good leadership qualities. The team captain is usually identified by the wearing of an armband. Franco Foda (born 23 April 1966) is a German football coach and former player who was most recently the manager of Swiss club FC Zürich. Club career Foda appeared in over 400 top-flight matches in (West) Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Foda joinedFC Basel's first team during the winter break of their 1996–97 season under head coach Karl Engel. Ulf Kirsten
Ulf Kirsten (born 4 December 1965) is a German former professional footballer who played as a striker. Nicknamed ''Der Schwatte'' (dialect for ''Der Schwarze'', 'The Black One'), he is the first player in history to reach a total 100 caps playing with two different national teams (first for East Germany, then Reunified Germany).
