The elite men's race was won by Kenya's Cosmas Ndeti in a time of 2:09:33 hours and the women's race was won by Russia's Olga Markova in 2:25:27. Jane Welzel
Jane Welzel (b. April 24, 1955, d. Aug. 31, 2014) was a pioneering long-distance runner who advocated for women to be added to the sport. In 1990, she became the U.S. Marathon Champion when she ran 2:33:35 at Grandma's Marathon in Minnesota. Her career spanned decades. Joy Ann Smith (born February 20, 1947) is a Canadian politician. She served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba between 1999 and 2003, and was in the House of Commons of Canada from 2004 to 2015. Education and business career Smith was born in Deloraine, Manitoba, Canada. She holds a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Manitoba (majoring in Math and Science), and a music diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Ontario. Maria Manuela Machado (born August 9, 1963, in Viana do Castelo) is a former Portuguese long-distance runner, who was particularly successful when running the marathon. Kim Jones (born May 2, 1958) is a retired American marathoner and road runner. Author of the autobiography, Dandelion Growing Wild. Early life and education Kim Jones was born on May 2, 1958, in Sonoma, California. She had a successful high school running career, winning states titles in the 400 meters, 800 meters, and mile.
