The 1992–93 Icelandic Hockey League season was the second season of the Icelandic Hockey League, the top level of ice hockey in Iceland. Three teams participated in the league, and Skautafelag Akureyrar won the championship. Icelandic Hockey League
The Icelandic Men's Hockey League, also known as Hertz deild karla for sponsorship reasons, is an ice hockey league in Iceland. As of the 2017–2018 season, it has four active teams. It is run by Ice Hockey Iceland. History Hockey was first played in Iceland in around 1950, on ponds and rivers. The weather made it very hard to play, so Icelandic hockey did not develop for some time. In 1987, the first outdoor ice arena was built with an artificial surface, and a second was built three years later. The first indoor arena was built in 1997, and a second was built in 2000. The league was formed in 1991, originally with three teams. The league season usually starts at the beginning of October and ends in March/April. As of 2018, there are three teams competing in the league. Skautafélag Akureyar, also known as SA for short, is an Icelandic sports club founded in 1937 and based in Akureyri, Iceland. It is best known for its ice hockey teams that compete in the Icelandic Men's Hockey League and the Icelandic Women's Hockey League. Men's ice hockey SA's men's team, known as SA Víkingar, has won 23 league titles, the most in its league's history. Skautafélagið Björninn, also known as Björninn for short, is an Icelandic sports club, founded in 1990 and based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It began as a skating club that fielded ice hockey teams and included figure skating and curling programs; it eventually added football. On 28 September 2018, the club's ice skating departments merged into Ungmennafélagið Fjölnir, which overtook all of the department's assets and debts.
