Eurovision Song Contest 1992
The Eurovision Song Contest 1992 was the 37th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Malmö, Sweden, following the country's victory at the with the song "" by Carola. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (SVT), the contest was held at the Malmö Isstadion on 9 May 1992 and was hosted by Swedish journalists Lydia Capolicchio and Harald Treutiger. Twenty-three countries took part in the contest with the returning after being absent the year before. This set another record for the most participating countries in the history of the competition, which would be broken again the following year. The 1992 contest also saw the last participation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, as they were banned from competing only a few weeks later due to the Yugoslav Wars. Malmö Isstadion
Malmö Isstadion (Malmö Ice Stadium) is an indoor sports arena located in the Stadionområdet area of Malmö, Sweden. The capacity of the arena is 5,800 and it was built in 1968. It is the former home arena of the Malmö Redhawks ice hockey team, and was replaced as such by Malmö Arena, which was inaugurated in November 2008. In addition to sporting events, the arena was also used for concerts until the opening of the larger Malmö Arena. History International events, such as the 1977 IBF World Championships, Eurovision Song Contest 1992 the 1996 Davis Cup final and the 2003 European Figure Skating Championships, have been held at Malmö Isstadion. Why Me? (Linda Martin Song)
"Why Me?" is a 1992 song by Northern-Irish singer Linda Martin. It was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1992, performed for by Martin. The result was also notable as the song was composed by Johnny Logan, who had previously won the contest with "What's Another Year?" and the self-composed " Hold Me Now" (in and respectively). Logan is, to date, the only person to win the contest with a song composed for him, win the contest with his own song and then compose another winner. Furthermore, this was the second time Martin performed a song by Logan at the contest, after " Terminal 3" in . The song is a ballad, building in intensity towards the end. The singer describes her thoughts about her lover and asks why she is the lucky one to have his love, as against anyone else. FilmNet was the name used for several premium television channels in Europe during the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.
