Mike Leavitt
Michael Okerlund Leavitt (born February 11, 1951) is an American politician who served as the List of Governors of Utah, 14th Governor of Utah from 1993 to 2003 in the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party, as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from 2003 to 2005 and as United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, Secretary of Health and Human Services from 2005 to 2009. Leavitt started his career in 1972 and worked in the insurance and risk management industry until 1992. From 1984 until 1992, he was the president (corporate title), president and chief executive officer (CEO) of The Leavitt Group. Leavitt led the Republican Governors Association from 1994 to 1995, the Western Governors Association from 1995 to 1996, the Council of State Governments from 1996 to 1997, and the National Governors Association from 1999 to 2000. Olene Walker
Olene Walker (née Smith; November 15, 1930 – November 28, 2015) was an American politician who served as the 15th governor of Utah from 2003 to 2005, succeeding the governorship after Mike Leavitt's resignation. A member of the Republican Party, Walker was Utah's first female governor and the first female Lieutenant Governor of Utah. Early life and education Walker was born Olene Smith in Ogden, Utah, in 1930 to Thomas Ole Smith and Nina (née Hadley) Smith, the second of their five children. She graduated from Weber High School. Walker received her bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1953, her master's from Stanford University, and her doctorate in education administration from the University of Utah. Merrill Cook
Merrill Cook (born May 6, 1946) is a Republican Party politician and businessman who served in the United States House of Representatives from Utah. Early life and career Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Cook was the son of scientist Melvin A. Cook who pioneered the development of slurry explosives. He graduated from East High School in 1964 and the University of Utah in 1969 and earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1971. He was hired as a budget analyst by Arthur D. Little, Inc. and in 1973 founded Cook Slurry Company, a mining explosives manufacturer, of which he served as president and chief executive. Cook married Camille Sanders with whom he had five children. They are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
