1992 Tournament Of The Americas
The 1992 Tournament of the Americas, later known as the FIBA Americas Championship and the FIBA AmeriCup, was a basketball championship hosted by the United States from June 27 to July 5, 1992. The games were played at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon. This FIBA AmeriCup was to earn the four berths allocated to the Americas for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. It was the international debut of the Dream Team, which defeated Venezuela in the final to win the tournament. Puerto Rico and Brazil made the semifinals to also qualify for the Olympics. Ronn McMahon
Ronn McMahon (born May 29, 1965) is a former Canadian national men's basketball team player, but he was in fact born in Provo, Utah in the United States. While playing in college at Eastern Washington University, McMahon A point guard, McMahon ended his collegiate career with Eastern Washington University men's basketball's second best steals getter, with a 3.52 average per game, 225 over his 3-year career, an average that trails only Mookie Blaylock's 3.8. McMahon's nine steals during a December 15, 1988 game against Portland State is his school's all-time record. He was named to the Big Sky all-conference first-team for 1989–90. McMahon was Canada's starting point guard at the 1994 FIBA World Championship as well as the 1992 FIBA Tournament of the Americas. They finished 7th and 5th respectively in these tournaments. Kenneth William Daniel Shields, is a Canadian basketball coach. He holds the most wins in Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's basketball history with the University of Victoria, and is the former head coach of the Canada men's national team. Personal life Shields was born in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. He is married to fellow basketball coach Kathy Shields. He attended the University of British Columbia and majored in Physical Education. Career Shields coached the Victoria Vikes from 1978 through 1989 and oversaw the Vikes win seven consecutive CIS championships. Gregory Hilko Wiltjer (born November 26, 1960) is a Canadian former professional basketball player. At a height of six feet, eleven inches (2.11 m) tall, he played at the centre position. Michael Francis Smrek (born 31 August 1962) is a Canadian former professional basketball player. He was selected in the second round of the 1985 NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers, and played seven seasons in the league as a backup center. Bill Wennington
William Percey Wennington (born April 26, 1963) is a Canadian former professional basketball player who won three National Basketball Association (NBA) championships with the Chicago Bulls. A center, he represented Canada in the 1984 Olympics and 1983 World University Games, where the team won gold. He was also on the Canadian team that narrowly missed qualification for the 1992 Olympics.
