The National League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. Along with the American League Central it is one of two divisions to have every member win at least one World Series title. The division was created when the National League (along with the American League) added two expansion teams and divided into two divisions, East and West effective for the 1969 season. The National League's geographical alignment was rather peculiar as its partitioning was really more north and south instead of east and west. Two teams in the Eastern Time Zone, the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, were in the same division as teams on the Pacific coast. Von Francis Hayes (born August 31, 1958) is an American former professional baseball player whose Major League Baseball (MLB) career spanned from 1981 to 1992 for the Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies, and California Angels. Hayes was acquired by the Phillies in a "five-for-one" trade with the Indians, in exchange for Manny Trillo, George Vukovich, Jay Baller, Jerry Willard, and Julio Franco. Charles Dewayne Hayes (born May 29, 1965) is an American former professional baseball third baseman and former coach for the FCL Phillies. Darrin John Chapin (born February 1, 1966) is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) during the 1991 and 1992 seasons. Listed at 6 feet 0 inches, 170 lb., he batted and threw right-handed. Career Chapin was a 1984 graduate of Champion High School, where he lettered three years in both football and basketball. Dale Curtis Sveum ( ; born November 23, 1963) is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) player and manager. He most recently served as the bench coach for the Kansas City Royals. As a player, Sveum saw action in 12 major league seasons between 1986 and 1999.
