1992 Baltic Cup
The 1992 Baltic Cup football competition was 12th season of the Baltic Cup and took place from 10–12 July 1992 at the Daugava Stadium in Liepāja, Latvia. It was the second annual competition of the three Baltic states – Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia – since they regained their independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. This time, FIFA did recognize the games as full internationals. Virginijus Baltušnikas (born 22 October 1968 in Panevėžys) is a retired Lithuanian professional football player who played for FK Žalgiris Vilnius in the Soviet Top League and Lithuanian A Lyga as well as FC Lokomotiv Nizhny Novgorod the Russian Premier League. Lithuanian Football Federation
The Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) ( lt, Lietuvos futbolo federacija) is the governing body of football in Lithuania. The Federation is responsible for football development in the country and for the national teams, including the Lithuania national football team. It is based in Vilnius. LFF became a member of FIFA in 1923, but following Lithuania's annexation by the Soviet Union it was disbanded. It became a member again in 1992 after Lithuania regained its independence. The top division is A Lyga. Oļegs Blagonadeždins ( uk, Олег Благонадєждін; born 16 May 1973) is a Latvian former professional footballer who played as a defender. Career Blagonadeždins was born in Donetsk, Soviet Union. During his playing career he played 70 international matches and scored two goals for the Latvia national team. He debuted in 1992 when the national team was founded, and played at the Euro 2004. He started his career in Pārdaugava, then played for Skonto FC for several years. Blagonadeždins also played for Spartak-Alania Vladikavkaz in Russia. His last club was FK Jūrmala. Genādijs Šitiks
Genādijs Šitiks (18 June 1958 – 20 August 2009) was a Latvian football manager and a former footballer, one of Latvia's best footballers of the 1980s. Playing and coaching career Šitiks learned the basics of football at the Riga football school, but his first serious team was VEF Rīga where he played under Georgijs Smirnovs. In 1978 Šitiks was named the best midfielder of the Latvian league and the 1979 season he started as a player of Daugava Rīga. With Daugava he played until 1991, making more than 400 appearances and scoring 108 goals. His best seasons came in 1981 - 21 goal in 41 matches and 1986 - 18 goals in 43 matches (and he was a midfielder, not a forward). Dzintars Sproģis (born 13 May 1971) is a former Latvian football defender. Sproģis was recognized as the best defender in the first season of Virslīga. Playing biography Dzintars Sproģis came from a sporting family - his father Aivars played for Darba reserves and Dzintars' older brother Haralds Sproģis was also a footballer with whom Dzintars played together in several clubs. The first club that Dzintars played with was Zvejnieks Liepāja in 1988 (at the age of just 17) from which he moved to RAF Jelgava in 1989. In 1989, he also made a debut with Daugava Rīga. With RAF he played in lower Soviet leagues. Jurijs Popkovs (born 6 July 1961) is a Latvian football manager and former player. He last managed the Latvian Higher League club FK Spartaks Jūrmala. Playing career Jurijs Popkovs was born in Kiev, Ukraine. His first professional club was Dynamo Minsk which he joined in 1980. In four years which he stayed with Dynamo he made only one appearance in the Soviet Top League. In 1984 Popkovs joined FK Daugava Rīga which under the management of Jānis Skredelis was then on the up-rise. With Daugava Popkovs made 309 appearances until 1991 scoring 33 goals. He rarely missed a game for Daugava and together with Aleksandr Kanischev and Genādijs Šitiks he formed the strong midfield on the Daugava squad. The team captain of an association football team, sometimes known as the skipper, is a team member chosen to be the on-pitch leader of the team; they are often one of the older or more experienced members of the squad, or a player that can heavily influence a game or has good leadership qualities.
