1991–92 WHL Season
The 1991–92 WHL season was the 26th season for the Western Hockey League. Fifteen teams completed a 72-game season. Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a major junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitutes the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada. Teams play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, with the winner moving on to play for the Memorial Cup, Canada's national junior championship. WHL teams have won the Memorial Cup 19 times since the league became eligible to compete for the trophy. Many players have been drafted from WHL teams, and have found success at various levels of professional hockey, including the National Hockey League (NHL). Victoria Cougars (WHL)
The Victoria Cougars were a major junior ice hockey team based in Victoria, British Columbia that played in the WCHL (Western Canadian Hockey League) a precursor to the Western Hockey League between 1971 and 1994. Prior to 1971, the Cougars were members of the Pacific Coast Junior Hockey League (1962–1967) and the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (1967–1971). The Cougars played their home games at the Victoria Memorial Arena, which was demolished in 2003. They won the WHL championship in 1981. The team moved to Prince George, British Columbia in 1994 and are now the Prince George Cougars. The Cougars earned several WHL records during their time in Victoria, both for most wins (60 in 1980–81) and for fewest points (12 in 1989–90). Their five wins that season set a WHL record for futility within a 72-game season, which included a record setting 32 game losing streak (November 22, 1989 – February 11, 1990). Saskatoon () is the largest city in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It straddles a bend in the South Saskatchewan River in the central region of the province. Ontario Hockey League
The Ontario Hockey League (OHL; french: Ligue de hockey de l'Ontario (LHO)) is one of the three major junior ice hockey leagues which constitute the Canadian Hockey League. The league is for players aged 16–19. There are exceptions for overage players of 20 years of age. There are currently 20 teams in the OHL; seventeen in Ontario, two in Michigan, and one in Pennsylvania. The league was founded in 1980 when its predecessor, the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League, formally split away from the Ontario Hockey Association, joining the Canadian Hockey League, Canadian Major Junior Hockey League and its direct affiliation with Hockey Canada. Quebec Major Junior Hockey League
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (french: Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec; abbreviated ''QMJHL'' in English, ''LHJMQ'' in French) is one of the three major junior ice hockey leagues that constitute the Canadian Hockey League. The league includes teams in the provinces of Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. The current president of the QMJHL is Gilles Courteau. The President's Cup is the championship trophy of the league. The QMJHL champion then goes on to compete in the Memorial Cup against the OHL and WHL champions, and the CHL host team. Andy Schneider (ice Hockey, Born 1972)
Andrew Schneider (born March 29, 1972) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey winger who played in the National Hockey League (NHL). Career Schneider signed with the expansion Ottawa Senators on October 9, 1992, and made his professional debut with the Senators' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the New Haven Senators.. Steve Konowalchuk
Steven Reed Konowalchuk (born November 11, 1972) is an American former professional ice hockey left winger who played in the NHL with the Washington Capitals and the Colorado Avalanche. He is currently the head coach of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels. Konowalchuk is the first player born and raised in Utah to make it to the NHL level. Zac Boyer
Zachary Jason Boyer (born October 25, 1971) is a Canadian former National Hockey League Winger (ice hockey), right winger. In the final game of the 1992 Memorial Cup, Boyer scored the championship-winning goal for the Kamloops Blazers with 14 seconds remaining in the third period. The assist came from a young Scott Niedermayer, now a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Drafted by the Blackhawks, Boyer spent two seasons with the Dallas Stars with time split with the IHL Blazers, Indianapolis Ice, Michigan K-Wings, Orlando Solar Bears (IHL), Orlando Solar Bears and Houston Aeros (1994–2013), Houston Aeros. He played for seven different teams in his hockey career. Jeff Nelson (ice Hockey)
Jeffrey A. C. Nelson (born December 18, 1972) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL). Jeff is the brother of Todd Nelson and Kerri Nelson-Brunen. Playing career Nelson was selected number thirty six overall by the Washington Capitals in the second round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Nelson had very significant numbers in the last two years he played in the WHL notching 233 points in only 136 games. However, Nelson was not able to translate that success to the NHL as he has toiled the majority of his career in the minor leagues. He did get a chance at the NHL when he played in 43 games for the Capitals between the 1994–95 NHL season and the 1995–96 NHL season. Kevin Riehl
Kevin Riehl (born March 11, 1971 in Leader, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian retired ice hockey centre. Career Riehl was drafted 231st overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, but never managed to play in the NHL. Instead, he played in the International Hockey League for the Cincinnati Cyclones, the American Hockey League for the Utica Devils and Albany River Rats and the East Coast Hockey League for the Birmingham Bulls and the Raleigh IceCaps. Beginning in 1995, Riehl played in Europe, beginning two years in Germany's 2nd Bundesliga for Iserlohner EC where he scored 168 points in 93 games including 85 goals. He then spent two seasons in Italy's Serie A before moving to the United Kingdom in 1999 where he joined the Bracknell Bees of the British Ice Hockey Superleague.
