Season summary In the 1991–92 season, Ian Branfoot took over as Southampton boss but their fortunes fared no better and only managed to secure a 16th-place finish despite reaching the Full Members Cup final at Wembley only to lose 3–2 against Nottingham Forest. Southampton () is a port city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire in southern England. It is located approximately south-west of London and west of Portsmouth. Steve Wood (footballer, Born February 1963)
Steve Wood (born 2 February 1963) is an English former football defender. Wood started his career as an apprentice at Arsenal but was then snapped up by Reading for whom he had eight successful years gaining promotion to the Second Division. He then moved to Millwall for £85,000, and finally onto Southampton for £400,000. He had a brief spells at Oxford United and Woking in the latter part of his career then retired. He now runs his own football representation company, Midas Sports. Neil Maddison
Neil Stanley Maddison (born 2 October 1969) is an English football coach, former professional footballer and co-commentator. He is the academy ambassador and player welfare officer at Middlesbrough. As a player, he was predominantly a central midfield who notably played in the Premier League for Southampton and Middlesbrough, before going on to play in the Football League with Barnsley, Bristol City and Darlington. He would initially remain with Darlington following the end of his playing career and worked in a variety of roles at the club, as well as managing the first team on a temporary basis on three occasions. He has since worked with the Middlesbrough academy and has co-commentated on games for BBC Tees since the start of the 2013–14 season. Stuart Gray (born 19 April 1960) is an English former professional footballer and manager. He has previously managed Southampton, Northampton Town and Sheffield Wednesday as well as working as caretaker manager for a number of teams. He has been Fulham FC's defensive coach since 2016, in which time they have earned three promotions to the Premier League. Jon Gittens
Jonathan Antoni Gittens (22 January 1964 – 10 May 2019) was an English professional footballer who played for Swindon Town as well as for Southampton, Middlesbrough, Portsmouth, Torquay United and Exeter City. Playing career Southampton Born in Moseley, Gittens started his career with Midlands Combination side Paget Rangers whilst taking a two-year course in menswear tailoring when he was spotted by Southampton. Gittens joined the Saints in October 1985 for a fee of £10,000. At the time of his signing he was raw but had pace and was considered one for the future. Jeffrey Jude Kenna (born 27 August 1970) is an Irish football manager and former professional footballer. He played as a defender from 1989 until 2009, notably in the Premier League for Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City. He was part of the Rovers side that won the title in 1995 following his mid-season transfer from the Saints. He also played in the Football League for Tranmere Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Derby County, finishing his career in England with Non-league side Kidderminster Harriers. David Robert Hughes (born 30 December 1972) is a Welsh football manager and former footballer. As a player, he was a midfielder who notably spent six seasons in the Premier League with Southampton. He also had spells with non-league sides Eastleigh and Sutton United. He briefly managed Eastleigh in a player/manager capacity whilst with the club. Francis Benali
Francis Vincent Benali (born 30 December 1968) is an English football coach and former professional player. As a player, he was a full back who notably spent most of his career in the Premier League with Southampton, during a sixteen-year spell he notched up a total of 373 appearances in all competitions, scoring just once. He was named as one of "Southampton's Cult Heroes," in a book by Jeremy Wilson in October 2006. He also played for Nottingham Forest on loan in 2001 and later finished his career with a two-year spell at non-league side Eastleigh. Richard Anthony Hall (born 14 March 1972) is an English football coach and former professional footballer, who is an under-23's coach at Colchester United. As a player, he was defender who played in the Premier League for both Southampton and West Ham United, having previously played in the Football League with Scunthorpe United. He made over 30 appearances for Scunthorpe before being signed by Southampton for £200,000 in February 1991. After five years with the south-coast club and over 120 league appearances, Hall earned a £1.4 million move to West Ham in the summer of 1996.
