Belgian Television
Television in Belgium was introduced in 1953 and began with one channel each in Dutch and French. The country is heavily cabled, with 93% of households watching television through cable as of 2003. History The three Belgian Communities – Dutch, French and German-speaking – have legal responsibility for audiovisual communication. They constitute separate markets, the common feature of which is the fact that they have been extensively cabled for three decades and are thus able to receive neighbouring countries' channels. Until 1978, Radio-Television Belgium ( nl, Belgische Radio- en Televisieomroep; french: Radio-Télévision Belge) was Belgium's national public television broadcaster. When broadcasting was devolved to the language communities in 1977, the old organization split into three separate organisations now known as VRT, RTBF and BRF respectively. Bobby Hatfield
Robert Lee Hatfield (August 10, 1940 – November 5, 2003) was an American singer. He and Bill Medley were the Righteous Brothers. He sang the tenor part for the duo, and sang solo on the group's 1965 recording of "Unchained Melody". Early life Born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Hatfield moved with his family to Anaheim, California, when he was four. He attended Anaheim High School, where he played football and baseball, and was co-captain of the basketball team. He was student body president in the 1957–1958 school year, graduating in 1958. He briefly considered signing as a professional ballplayer, but his passion for music led him to pursue a singing career while still attending high school. He attended Fullerton College. He eventually encountered his singing partner, Bill Medley, while attending California State University, Long Beach. Hatfield is an alumnus of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. ''Samson & Gert'' is a Flemish children's television series produced by Eline van Noppen, centered on the talking dog Samson and his owner Gert. In its entire run, the show was originally aired on TV1 from Christmas Day 1989 until 1 December 1997, where it moved to Ketnet and continues airing all of its episodes to this day. History Originally Gert Verhulst was a continuity announcer. He wanted to make the announcements before children's television programmes more appealing by having an animal puppet next to him. He got in touch with puppeteer Danny Verbiest, who created the puppet dog Samson. Samson, a Bearded Collie, made his screen debut in the Christmas period of 1989. ''Tik Tak'' is a Belgian children's television program that aired on BRTN from 1981 to 1991 and CBeebies in 2020. It was aimed at toddlers. History The program was conceived by Mil Lenssens when he saw some children fascinated by the broadcast of a lottery draw. The predictable, repetitive mix of colors, movement and musical rhythms he then developed in the program, along with Clien De Vuyst. The show There were 366 episodes produced (enough for one year, with 1 extra episode for leap years). Each episode begins with sheep (and the occasional dog) at sunset on a rotating platform, and ends with a shadow figure (Ann Ricour), who has all kinds of adventures in five differently colored books. The first broadcast of the program took place on 1 November 1981 on the BRTN (originally called BRT). It was broadcast on Ketnet in Belgium until 2006.
