Hurdling
Hurdling is the act of jumping over an obstacle at a high speed or in a sprint. In the early 19th century, hurdlers ran at and jumped over each hurdle (sometimes known as 'burgles'), landing on both feet and checking their forward motion. Today, the dominant step patterns are the 3-step for high hurdles, 7-step for low hurdles, and 15-step for intermediate hurdles. Hurdling is a highly specialized form of obstacle racing, and is part of the sport of athletics. In hurdling events, barriers known as hurdles are set at precisely measured heights and distances. Each athlete must pass over the hurdles; passing under or intentionally knocking over hurdles will result in disqualification. Accidental knocking over of hurdles is not cause for disqualification, but the hurdles are weighted to make doing so disadvantageous. Frida Johansson
Frida Svensson (born Johansson on 5 January 1970) is a Swedish track and field athlete who competed in the 400 metres hurdles. She represented Sweden at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics on three occasions, qualifying for the semifinals in both Tokyo 1991 and Stuttgart 1993. Omotayo Akinremi (born 13 September 1974) is a Nigerian former sprinter and hurdler. She competed in local and international competitions in athletics representing Nigeria. She won gold medals at the 1992 and 1993 African Championships in Athletics at 400 metres hurdles, she also won bronze medal at the 1990 event, and during the 1991 All-Africa Games she won bronze medals in the 400m hurdles. Sabine Busch (later Ascui; born 21 November 1962, in Erfurt) is a retired East German athlete, who specialised in the 400 metres and the 400 metres hurdles. In 1987, she became the World Champion at 400 m hurdles and the World Indoor Champion at 400 m. Biography At the 1982 European Championships she finished fourth in the 400 m, before winning a gold medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay, together with teammates Kirsten Siemon, Dagmar Rubsam and Marita Koch. At the 1983 World Championships she finished fifth in her 400 m semifinal and was eliminated, but won another gold medal in the relay, with teammates Gesine Walther, Koch and Rübsam.
