1991 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1991 Individual Speedway World Championship was the 46th edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. Diminutive Danish people, Danish rider Jan O. Pedersen won his first and only World Championship with a 15-point maximum from his five rides, the last time a rider would have a perfect score in the Final. Local favourite Tony Rickardsson finished second with 12 points, with triple champion Hans Nielsen (speedway rider), Hans Nielsen of Denmark finishing third on 11 points after defeating fellow Dane Tommy Knudsen in a run-off. Individual Speedway World Championship
The World Championship of Speedway is an international competition between the highest-ranked motorcycle speedway riders of the world, run under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The first official championships were held in 1936. Today, this official FIM championship is organised as a series of Speedway Grand Prix events, where points are awarded according to performance in the event and tallied up at the end of each season. However, up to 1994, it was run as a single-night event after qualifying rounds during the season, leading up to a big final of 20 heats, where points were awarded according to riders' heat placings and then tallied up at the end. Olympic Park Speedway (Mildura)
The Motordrome, also known as the Olympic Park Speedway, the Melbourne Speedway or the Victorian Speedway, was a former speedway and Australian rules football ground located approximately on the site of the present day Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in Olympic Park in Melbourne, Victoria. The ground was primarily a speedway track, but also hosted football matches. History Melbourne Carnivals Pty. Ltd, a company established in 1923 by Jack Campbell and Jim DuFrocq, developed and leased a large site known as the Amateur Sports Ground from the Crown with the help of local entrepreneur John Wren. On the site, the Motordrome was constructed. David Cheshire
David Edward Cheshire (born 30 June 1966) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Australia. Career Cheshire made his British leagues debut during the 1983 British League season, where he rode for Cradley Heathens. Although he only made five appearances he was part of the team that won the league and cup double. The following season, in 1984, he signed for Wolverhampton Wolves and doubled up for the Arena Essex Hammers in the National League. He stayed with Arena Essex in 1985 and then signed for the Birmingham Brummies for the 1986 National League season. It was also in 1986 that he reached the final of the Speedway Under-21 World Championship. In the final, held at Rivne, Cheshire finished in 11th place. After three years away from British speedway, he returned with Middlesbrough Bears in 1990 and would stay with them for 1991 and 1992, before retiring. Glenn Doyle
Glenn Doyle (born 3 March 1965 in Sydney, New South Wales) is a retired Australian Motorcycle speedway rider. Doyle is a twice Australian Champion and won the Western Australian Championship in his adopted state on six occasions. Career Australia Glenn Doyle began his speedway career in the mid-1980s in Perth, Western Australia, and quickly rose to prominence as WA's best solo rider, becoming a regular winner at the Claremont Speedway. He first won the WA State Championship in 1989 and went on to win that years Australian Championship on the opposite side of the country at the Newcastle Motordrome in Newcastle, NSW. Claremont Speedway
The Claremont Speedway was a racing circuit in the grounds of the Claremont Showground in the suburb of Claremont in Western Australia's capital city of Perth. The speedway held its first meeting on 14 May 1927, and its final meeting on 31 March 2000. Western Australian Individual Speedway Championship
The Western Australian Individual Speedway Championship is a Motorcycle speedway championship held annually in Western Australia to determine the WA State champion. The event is organised by the Speedway Motorcycle Club of WA and is sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia (MA). Mick McKeon and former twice Australian Champion Glenn Doyle have both won six championships each. Chum Taylor, who won his first championship in 1958 at Perth's Claremont Speedway, is next with five wins, his last in 1970. Seven international riders have become the Western Australian Champion. Stephen Davies (speedway Rider)
Stephen Davies (born 31 January 1965) is a former international speedway rider from Australia. Speedway career Davies twice won medals at the Australian National Championships. He won a silver medal in 1989 behind Glenn Doyle and a bronze medal the following year in 1990. He was the champion of New South Wales on several occasions and reached the 1987 Individual Long Track World Championship semi final. Todd Wiltshire
Todd Wiltshire (born 26 September 1968 in Bankstown, New South Wales) is a retired Australian motorcycle speedway rider who competed at the highest level of the sport, finishing a career best third in the 1990 Individual Speedway World Championship at the Odsal Stadium in Bradford, England. He is also a two time Australian Champion, winning in 1999 and 2001. Career Australia Despite being born in Sydney, Todd Wiltshire spent most of his childhood in Newcastle. Craig Boyce
Craig Boyce (born 2 August 1967 in Sydney, Australia) was a motorcycle speedway rider who primarily rode for the Poole Pirates in the British Elite League. After retiring from riding, Boyce became manager of the Australian national team until 2012. Boyce is a three-time Australian Solo Champion. He won all of his championships (1991, 1996 and 1997) with a 15-point maximum. Newcastle Motordrome
Newcastle Motordrome was a dirt track racing venue located on the Old Punt Road in Tomago, New South Wales, just north of the Hunter River and north of the city of Newcastle. The ¼-mile speedway operated from its opening in 1977 until it was sold in 2002. The site of the Motordrome is now warehouses and light industrial factories. New South Wales Individual Speedway Championship
The New South Wales Individual Speedway Championship is a Motorcycle speedway championship held annually in New South Wales to determine the NSW State champion. The event is organised by the NSW Solo Riders' Association and is sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia (MA). Billy Sanders from Sydney holds the record for the most number of NSW Championship wins with eight between 1976 and 1985. From his first win in 1976 until his last win in 1985, with the exception of 1983 when no title was run, Sanders was the only winner of the NSW title. Aub Lawson, Craig Boyce and Chris Holder are next with five wins. Only Holder, the reigning champion (2011), is still actively racing. Seven international riders have won the NSW Solo Championship.
