The 1991 FIVB Men's World Cup was held from 22 November to 1 December 1991 in Japan. The World Cup consisted of 12 teams: champions of 5 geographic areas (Asia, North America, South America, Africa, Europe), the four runners-up, the host country and two guest teams (wild card). Dmitry Fomin or Dmitri Fomine (russian: Дмитрий Фомин; born 21 January 1968) is a former Russian male volleyball player. He was part of the Soviet Union men's national volleyball team at the 1990 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship and was later part of the Russia men's national volleyball team at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Viacheslav Platonov (Russian: Вячеслав Платонов; 21 January 1939 – 26 December 2005) was a Russian volleyball player and coach. Vyacheslav Platonov began his volleyball career playing for the Russian club teams until 1967. Sergey Vladimirovich Gorbunov (russian: Сергей Владимирович Горбунов; 10 July 1970 – 20 December 2001) was a Russian volleyball player. He competed in the Volleyball at the 1992 Summer Olympics – Men's tournament, men's tournament at the 1992 Summer Olympics, finishing in seventh place. Gorbunov won a gold medal representing the Soviet Union men's national volleyball team, Soviet Union at the 1991 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup, 1991 World Cup. Yuri Cherednik (russian: Юрий Чередник, born 25 June 1966) is a Russian former volleyball player who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1988 Summer Olympics and for the Unified Team in the 1992 Summer Olympics.
