1991 Czechoslovak Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 1991 Czechoslovak motorcycle Grand Prix was the thirteenth round of the 1991 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 23–25 August 1991 at the Masaryk Circuit located in Brno, Czechoslovakia. 500 cc race report Wayne Rainey on pole, his 6th for the season; Mick Doohan 0.1 seconds behind. Doohan gets the start from Rainey. Doohan sets the fastest lap on the 8th, and Rainey is still with him. It's a big fight on the last lap, and Rainey gets the best of Doohan. Rainey on how to beat Doohan: "I'd just sit on his wheel in the middle part of the race, and I'd make sure he could feel me, so he’d have to work his front tire harder, braking later and going deeper into the bends. Masaryk Circuit
The Masaryk circuit ( cz, Masarykův okruh) or Masarykring, also referred to as the Brno Circuit, refers to two motorsport race tracks located in Brno, Czech Republic. The original street circuit was made up of public roads, and at its longest measured . In 1949, events such as the Czechoslovakian Grand Prix attracted top teams and drivers. The track is named after the first president of Czechoslovakia, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Racing on the old roads ended after 1986, when the new (current) circuit was opened. The annual Motorcycle Grand Prix of the Czech Republic is the circuit's most important event. It has been held here since 1950 and is the most famous motor race in the Czech Republic. Kevin Schwantz
Kevin Schwantz (born June 19, 1964) is an American former professional motorcycle road racer. He was the world champion of the 1993 FIM Road Racing World Championship. Early life Schwantz, whose parents owned a motorcycle shop, learned to ride at the age of four. He began his competitive career as a trials rider, following his father and Uncle, Darryl Hurst (the original 34), in that sport. From trials, he progressed to motocross in his teens, becoming a top regional MX racer. After a serious crash in qualifying for the Houston Supercross in 1983, he decided to quit motocross. Career At the end of the 1984 season, he was offered a test ride with the Yoshimura Suzuki Superbike team, who promptly signed the Texan to a contract. Simon Buckmaster
Simon Buckmaster (born 15 January 1961) is a British former professional Grand Prix motorcycle racer. He participated in 50 Grands Prix races between 1984 and 1992. His best season was in 1989 when he finished 12th in the Championship. Career Buckmaster made his first Grand Prix appearance at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1983, but failed to qualify. He returned in 1984 and successfully qualified for the race. Buckmaster became a Grand Prix regular in 1985. Riding a privateer Suzuki he made five starts but scored no championship points. In 1986 Buckmaster switched to Honda and competed in all of the races. His best finish was 15th place at the Dutch TT. Buckmaster continued to ride a Honda in 1987 season, starting in 12 races but failing to score any points. Buckmaster had a career-best season in 1989 when he finished 12th in the Championship. Cornelis Martinus Anthinius Maria Doorakkers (born 2 March 1963 in Gilze, Netherlands) is a former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. Cees Doorakker was the 250cc Dutch champion in 1984 and 1986. In 1986 he also reached the championship in the 500cc class. Doorakkers raced in the Grand Prix road race world championship between 1984 and 1995. Being a privateer without factory supported machines, he scored only a few points, his best result being a seventh place at the Yugoslavian Grand Prix in Rijeka in 1990. That season he reached a total of 39 points, 16th in the final ranking. In 1991 he finished the season ranked as the top privateer, ranking 14th overall (40 points). Later years were plagued by lack of money, inferior equipment and bad luck, like the jamming of his new engine in the first race of the season in Australia. Michael Rudroff (born 28 December 1960) is a Germans, German former professional Grand Prix motorcycle racing, Grand Prix motorcycle road racing, road racer. Rudolf competed in his first Grand Prix in 1987, and made one podium; coming third in the 1989 Nations Grand Prix. His career ranged from 1987 until 1996, where he started in 53 races, though he never started from pole position. Eddie Laycock (born 25 May 1961) is a former professional motorcycle racer from Dublin, Ireland. Motorcycle racing career A two-time Isle of Man TT race winner, in 1986, Laycock finished runner-up to Brian Reid in the TT Formula 2 World Championship. In 1987 he beat Reid to win thJunior TT 250ccrace, and in 1989 won thSupersport 400ccRace. Doug Chandler
John Douglas Chandler (born September 27, 1965) is an American former professional motorcycle racer. He earned a reputation as one of the most versatile racers of the 1980s and 1990s. Chandler is one of only four riders in AMA racing history to win the AMA Grand Slam, representing national wins at a mile, half-mile, short track, TT and road race. He was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2006. Motorcycle racing career Born in Salinas, California, Chandler began competing in dirt track oval racing after experiencing success in motocross competitions. Cagiva is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer. It was founded in 1950 by Giovanni Castiglioni in Varese, originally producing small metal components. Giovanni's sons, Claudio and Gianfranco Castiglioni, went into the motorcycle industry in 1978.
