Brit Awards 1991 was the 11th edition of the Brit Awards, an annual pop music awards ceremony in the United Kingdom. Dominion Theatre
The Dominion Theatre is a West End theatre and former cinema on Tottenham Court Road, close to St Giles Circus and Centre Point, in the London Borough of Camden. Planned as primarily a musical theatre, it opened in 1929, but the following year became a cinema—it hosted the London premiere of Charlie Chaplin's ''City Lights'' with Chaplin in attendance—and in 1933 after liquidation of the controlling company was sold to Gaumont cinema chain, which later became part of the Rank Organisation. It was a major premiere cinema until the 1970s, when it began to host live concerts. In January 1981 it once more became primarily a live performance venue, and has since hosted many musicals, notably '' We Will Rock You'' which ran from 2002 to 2014. Brit Awards
The BRIT Awards (often simply called the BRITs) are the British Phonographic Industry's annual popular music awards. The name was originally a shortened form of "British", "Britain", or "Britannia" (in the early days the awards were sponsored by Britannia Music Club), but subsequently became a backronym for British Record Industry Trusts Show. In addition, an equivalent awards ceremony for classical music, called the Classic BRIT Awards, is held in May. The awards were first held in 1977 and originated as an annual event in 1982 under the auspices of the British record industry's trade association, the BPI. EMF (band)
EMF are an English alternative rock band from Cinderford, Gloucestershire, who came to prominence at the beginning of the 1990s. During their initial eight-year run, from 1989 to 1997, the band released three studio albums before a hiatus. Their first single, " Unbelievable", reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart, and was a number 1 hit on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. Their debut album, '' Schubert Dip'', went to number 3 on the UK Albums Chart. In April 2022, EMF released their first album of new material in 27 years, ''Go Go Sapiens''. Band name The name EMF is an initialism of Epsom Mad Funkers, a name taken from a fan club of the band New Order in 1989. Never Enough (The Cure Song)
"Never Enough" is a song by English rock band the Cure, released as a single in September 1990 from their 1990 remix album, '' Mixed Up''. The song topped the US '' Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart, reached number three in Finland, and peaked within the top 20 in Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Content Unlike most other Cure songs of this era, the song was unexpectedly guitar-oriented, featuring no synthesizers. On the album, it is subtitled "Big Mix". While containing no synthesisers, the song was nonetheless influenced by baggy music. The song's largely electronic B-side "Harold and Joe" was described by Chris Ott of ''Pitchfork'' as a "phenomenally adorable ecstasy tribute." "Where Are You Baby?" is a song by English singer, songwriter and pop-rap artist Betty Boo, included on her debut album, '' Boomania'' (1990). It was released as a single in July 1990, peaking at number three on the UK Singles Chart in September 1990 and earning a Silver certification from the British Phonographic Industry on New Year's Day 1991. Outside the United Kingdom, the single reached number six in Ireland, number 10 in Spain, number 11 in New Zealand, and number 13 in Switzerland. It also charted in Australia, Germany, and the Netherlands. The song features a prominent sample of the Velvelettes song "He Was Really Sayin' Somethin'". "Killer" is a song by British acid house DJ and record producer Adamski. Written by Adamski and British singer-songwriter Seal and produced by Adamski, "Killer" was a hit in the United Kingdom, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart and spending four weeks at the top in May and June 1990. In total, the single sold over 400,000 copies in the UK, earning it a gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). The song also peaked at number one in Belgium and Zimbabwe and at number two in the Netherlands and West Germany. Background Concerning the origins of "Killer". Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel (born 19 February 1963), known professionally as Seal, is a British singer. He has sold over 20 million records worldwide. These include hit songs "Crazy" and " Killer", the latter of which went to number one in the UK, and his most celebrated song, " Kiss from a Rose", which was released in 1994. Seal is renowned for his distinctive soulful singing voice. Seal has won multiple awards throughout his career, including three Brit Awards; he won Best British Male in 1992. He has also won four Grammy Awards and an MTV Video Music Award. Adam Paul Tinley (born 4 December 1967), known professionally as Adamski, as well as Sonny Eriksson, is an English DJ, musician, singer and record producer, prominent at the time of acid house for his tracks " N-R-G" and " Killer", a collaboration with Seal, which was a No. 1 song in the UK in 1990. Career Tinley was born in Lymington, Hampshire, England. As a youngster, influenced by punk rock and John Peel, he formed his first band The Stupid Babies when he was 11 and living in New Forest in England. Jonathan King
Jonathan King (born Kenneth George King; 6 December 1944) is an English singer, songwriter and record producer. He first came to prominence in 1965 when "Everyone's Gone to the Moon", a song that he wrote and sang while still an undergraduate, achieved chart success. As an independent producer, he discovered and named the rock band Genesis in 1967, producing their first album '' From Genesis to Revelation''. He founded his own label UK Records in 1972. He released and produced songs for 10cc and the Bay City Rollers.
