1990–91 Serie A
The 1990-91 season saw Sampdoria win the Serie A title for the first time in their history, finishing five points ahead of second placed Milan. Third placed Internazionale were victorious in the UEFA Cup, with ninth-placed Roma compensating for their sub-standard league season with glory in the Coppa Italia, while Juventus's seventh-placed finish meant that they would be without European action for the first season in three decades. Lecce, Pisa, Cesena and Bologna were all relegated. A notable record was set on 9 December 1990 in a Serie A fixture, when Bologna player Giuseppe Lorenzo was sent off after just 10 seconds for striking an opponent in the match against Parma. This was reportedly the fastest sending off in senior football worldwide at the time. This is the most recent Serie A season to date in which a team won their first Italian title. The Serie A (), also called Serie A TIM for national sponsorship with TIM, is a professional league competition for football clubs located at the top of the Italian football league system and the winner is awarded the Scudetto and the Coppa Campioni d'Italia. It has been operating as a round-robin tournament for over ninety years since the 1929–30 season. It had been organized by the Direttorio Divisioni Superiori until 1943 and the Lega Calcio until 2010, when the Lega Serie A was created for the 2010–11 season. Serie A is regarded as one of the best football leagues in the world and it is often depicted as the most tactical and defensively sound national league. Cagliari Calcio, commonly referred to as Cagliari (), is an Italian football club based in Cagliari, Sardinia. In the 2022-23 season, they compete in Serie B. Bruno Giorgi (footballer)
Bruno Giorgi (20 November 1940 – 22 September 2010) was an Italian football player and manager who played as a defender. Biography After an unremarkable career with teams such as Palermo and Reggiana, Giorgi became a football coach. In 1989, after several experiences in minor league football (including a stint at Vicenza during which he had the opportunity to launch a young Roberto Baggio into his early footsteps into first team football), and immediately after narrowly missing top flight promotion with Serie B outsiders Cosenza, he took the head coaching job at ACF Fiorentina (also, his first Serie A job) where he performed badly at domestic league level but also leading the club to the 1989–90 UEFA Cup final, being however removed from his position before the two-legged final itself was actually played. Giuseppe Lorenzo (born 27 December 1964) is an Italian retired professional footballer who played as a forward. He currently holds the record for the fastest-ever sending off in a professional match; the non-professional record is held by English footballer David Pratt. Lorenzo was sent off after just 10 seconds on 9 December 1990 while playing for Bologna against Parma for striking an opponent. Coppa Italia
The ("Italy Cup") is an annual knockout cup competition in Italian football organized by the FIGC until the 2009–10 season and the Lega Serie A ever since. History The beginning of the tournament was turbulent, due to the complexity of the participation of the teams in the tournament, since its inception in 1921, the Italian championship was divided into two groups. On the one hand the CCI Championship (Italian Football Confederation) and on the other the FIGC championship ( Italian Football Federation).
