1990–91 Orlando Magic Season
The 1990–91 NBA season was the Magic's 2nd season in the National Basketball Association. In the 1990 NBA draft, the Magic selected Dennis Scott out of Georgia Tech with the fourth overall pick. After playing in the Central Division in the Eastern Conference, the Magic would move into the Western Conference and settle into the Midwest Division. The Magic continued to struggle in their second season losing their first six games. After a 3-game winning streak, they lost 16 of their next 18 games, which included seven and eight-game losing streaks. However, February would be the best month for the Magic as they won 8 out of 11 games, finishing fourth in the Midwest Division with a 31–51 record. Matt Guokas
Matthew George Guokas Jr. (; born February 25, 1944) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. His father, Matt Sr. and uncle, Al, have also played in the NBA. Guokas and his father, Matt Sr., were the first father-son duo to both win NBA championships as players; this feat has since been repeated by the Barrys (Rick and Brent), the Waltons (Bill and Luke), the Thompsons ( Mychal and Klay), and the Paytons (Gary Payton and Gary Payton II). Nick Anderson (basketball)
Nelison "Nick" Anderson (born January 20, 1968) is an American former professional basketball player who played for the Orlando Magic, Sacramento Kings, and Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born in Chicago, Illinois, Anderson played high school basketball at Simeon Career Academy where he was named " Illinois Mr. Basketball" for 1986 after leading his team to the city championship and a top national ranking in ''USA Today''. Anderson would go on to play at the University of Illinois for two years. He was then drafted by the Orlando Magic in the 1989 NBA draft. 1990–91 Cleveland Cavaliers Season
The 1990–91 NBA season was the 21st season of the National Basketball Association in Cleveland, Ohio. After playing in Italy the previous season, Danny Ferry would make his debut in the NBA, signing a contract with the Cavaliers. However, a year after overcoming injuries to make the playoffs, the Cavaliers were utterly destroyed by injuries again, as Mark Price only played just 16 games due to a torn ACL in his left knee, averaging 16.9 points, 10.4 assists and 2.6 steals per game, and sixth man Hot Rod Williams only played just 43 games due to a foot injury. 1990–91 Chicago Bulls Season
The 1990–91 NBA season was the Bulls' 25th season in the National Basketball Association. During the off-season, the Bulls acquired Dennis Hopson from the New Jersey Nets, and signed free agent Cliff Levingston. The Bulls overcame a slow start, losing their first three games of the season, as they later on went on an 11-game winning streak between February and March, held a 32–14 record at the All-Star break, then posted a nine-game winning streak also in March. The Bulls finished in first place in the Eastern Conference with a 61–21 record, surpassing their previous franchise-best from the 1971–72 season. The 1990–91 NBA season was the Charlotte Hornets' third season in the National Basketball Association. In the 1990 NBA draft, the Hornets had the fifth overall pick, and selected Kendall Gill from the University of Illinois. After playing one year in the Midwest Division in the Western Conference, the Hornets returned to the Eastern Conference and moved into the Central Division. In the off-season, the team signed free agent Johnny Newman, and later on traded Armen Gilliam to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Mike Gminski at midseason. The franchise improved seven games over the previous season finishing with 26 wins and 56 losses. However, they finished last place in their division for the third straight season. 1990–91 Boston Celtics Season
The 1990–91 NBA season was the 45th season for the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association. During the off-season, the Celtics hired Chris Ford as their new head coach. After playing in Italy the previous season, former Celtics guard Brian Shaw would return to the team after a one-year absence. After failing to advance past the first round in the two previous seasons, it appeared going into the 1990–91 season that the Celtics were fading as NBA title contenders. However, the Celtics burst to a 29–5 start reminiscent of their title years of the 1980s, and once again established themselves as contenders, holding a 35–12 record at the All-Star break. 1990–91 Atlanta Hawks Season
The 1990–91 NBA season was the Hawks' 42nd season in the National Basketball Association, and 23rd season in Atlanta. During the off-season, the Hawks signed free agent All-Star guard Sidney Moncrief, who came out of his retirement. Under new head coach Bob Weiss, the Hawks won their first three games. However, after a 4–1 start, they lost nine consecutive games in November, but went on to win 20 of their next 25 games including a 7-game winning streak, and held a 26–21 record at the All-Star break. Brian Hill (basketball)
Brian Alfred Hill (born September 19, 1947) is an American former professional basketball coach. Early life Born in East Orange, New Jersey, Hill graduated from Our Lady of the Valley High School in Orange, New Jersey in 1965 and John F. Kennedy College in Nebraska in 1969 with a degree in physical education. Hill was a three-year starter on the Kennedy basketball team. Coaching career In 1970, Hill began his coaching career as head coach at Clifford Scott High School in his native East Orange, New Jersey. Hill then was an assistant coach at Montclair State University#Athletics, Montclair State College from 1972 to 1974. John Gabriel is the Executive Advisor for the Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association. He is known for his time as general manager with the Orlando Magic, who reached the NBA Playoffs 5 times during his tenure. Career Philadelphia 76ers Gabriel started his coaching career with the Philadelphia 76ers working as an assistant coach, the director of video scouting, and the scouting coordinator. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets men's basketball team represents the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in NCAA Division I basketball. The team plays its home games in McCamish Pavilion on the school's Atlanta campus and is currently coached by Josh Pastner. Cremins led his team to the first ACC tournament victory in school history in 1985 and in 1990 he took Georgia Tech to the school's first Final Four appearance ever. 1990–91 Denver Nuggets Season
The 1990–91 NBA season was the Nuggets' 15th season in the National Basketball Association, and 24th season as a franchise. Bernie Bickerstaff took over as General Manager and decided it was time to rebuild the Nuggets. At the time, the club had the oldest team in the league. The Nuggets would make radical changes trading off stars for draft picks. The team selected LSU guard Chris Jackson with the third overall pick in the 1990 NBA draft, while acquiring Orlando Woolridge from the Los Angeles Lakers during the off-season. Under new head coach Paul Westhead, the Nuggets got off to a bad start losing their first seven games. Sam Vincent (basketball)
James Samuel Vincent (born May 18, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. Vincent won the State of Michigan "Mr. Basketball" award in 1981, the first year the award was given. He attended Lansing's Eastern High School, where he scored 61 points in one game as a senior, breaking the previous city scoring record of 54 set by Magic Johnson at Everett High School. A 6'2" point guard, Vincent followed in the footsteps of his older brother Jay Vincent, attending Michigan State University and earning '' Sporting News'' All-America honors in 1985. After graduating from college, he was selected by the Boston Celtics with the twentieth pick of the 1985 NBA draft.
