1990 Speedway World Pairs Championship
The 1990 Speedway World Pairs Championship was the twenty-first Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Speedway World Pairs Championship. The final took place at the Ellermühle Stadium in Landshut, Germany. The championship Final was dominated by favourites Denmark national speedway team, Denmark and the less fancied Australia national speedway team, Australia. Danish people, Danes Jan O. Pedersen and Hans Nielsen (speedway rider), Hans Nielsen scored 43 points to narrowly beat Australians Todd Wiltshire and Leigh Adams who scored 41. Hungary national speedway team, Hungary (Zoltán Adorján and Sándor Tihanyi) finished a distant third on 33 points. Sweden national speedway team, Sweden (Jimmy Nilsen and Per Jonsson) also finished on 33 points, though as Hungary scored three heat wins to one for the Swedes they were awarded third place. Fédération Internationale De Motocyclisme
The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM; en, International Motorcycling Federation) is the global governing/sanctioning body of motorcycle racing. It represents 116 national motorcycle federations that are divided into six regional continental unions. There are seven motorcycle-racing disciplines that FIM covers, encompassing 82 world championships as well as hundreds of secondary championships: enduro, trial, circuit racing, motocross and supermoto, cross-country, e-bike, and track racing. FIM is also involved in many non-racing activities that promote the sport, its safety, and support relevant public policy. The FIM is also the first international sporting federation to publish an Environmental Code, in 1994. Per Jonsson
Per Jonsson (born 21 March 1966 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a former speedway rider who won the Speedway World Championship in 1990, and finished runner-up in 1992. Career In 1985, his second season with the Reading Racers, the team won six major trophies. In 1993, he won the World Pairs Championship with Tony Rickardsson and reserve Henrik Gustafsson, and also won the British League Riders' Championship. His career was cut short when a crash during a league meeting in Poland in 1994 left him using a wheelchair for the rest of his life. In recognition of his contribution to the city of Toruń, in April 2010 one of the streets was named after him. Per Jonsson became the first rider in history to win both the World and World Under-21 Championships. Lars Gunnestad
Lars Gunnestad (born 18 February 1971 in Drammen, Norway) is a former Norwegian international motorcycle speedway rider. He won the Individual Speedway Norwegian Championship a record ten times. His son, Lars Daniel, is speedway rider also. Lars Daniel finished fifth in the 2009 Norwegian Championship. Career summary Gunnestad first came to prominence in 1988 when he won his first Norwegian title at the age of 17. His first British club was Sheffield in 1991, who competed in the British League Division Two. Gunnestad missed the British speedway season in 1992, but returned in 1993 when he was signed by British League team the Poole Pirates with whom he would spend this rest of his British career. Gunnestad became a popular rider at Poole and eventually received a testimonial meeting there in 2001. He appeared in five Speedway Grand Prix meetings as a wild card. Kai Niemi
Kai Juhani Niemi (born 15 September 1955 in Pori, Finland) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider who represented the Finland national speedway team. Career He reached four World Championship finals, finishing a career best fourth in 1985 at the Odsal Stadium in Bradford, England. The performance in 1985 from a rider from the minor nations of speedway came as a surprise to many and he was level on points with three other riders leading into the last set of heats but was unable to score in heat 17, which resulted in a fourth place finish. Niemi won the Finnish National Championship a record nine times during his career (1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1988 and 1990) Niemi rode for the White City Rebels in the British League from 1976 to 1978, winning the league championship with the team in 1977. Kelly Moran (speedway Rider)
Kelly Moran (September 21, 1960 – April 4, 2010) was an American professional speedway rider who rode for a number of British clubs and also represented USA. Kelly's younger brother Shawn Moran was also a successful speedway rider who won the European (World) Under-21 World Championship in 1981 and the Long Track World Championship in 1983. Career Moran was known as "Jelly Man" and "the Wizard of Balance" for the way he would hang off his machine when cornering. He arrived in England to race for Hull in 1978 as a teenager, but his season was curtailed when he crashed heavily at the Hackney Wick Stadium and suffered multiple injuries.
