1990 North American Nations Cup
The Corona Three Nations Cup (also referred to as the North American Nations Cup or North American Championship) was an association football championship for CONCACAF's North American Zone. Overview The North American Football Confederation (NAFC) held a similar competition in 1947 and 1949. While Canada was a founding member of the NAFC, it did not participate in the first two championships. In 1990, the North American Zone re-introduced its championship, hosted by Canada. Although Mexico and Canada sent their full national teams, the U.S. sent its B-team and does not count these games as part of its official internationals. John Catliff
John Terrence Catliff (born 8 January 1965) is a Canadian former professional soccer player, who played as a striker. He retired ranked second all-time on the Canadian national team with 18 international "A" goals between 1984 and 1994. In 2012 as part of the Canadian Soccer Association's centennial celebration, he was named to the all-time Canada XI men's team. Club career Catliff was selected to the All-Ivy League First team as a forward in 1983, 1984, and 1986 while playing for the Harvard Crimson. He was also named to the All-American First Team in 1986. Catliff ended his college career with the Crimson with a total of 34 goals and 15 assists. Catliff was a Canadian Soccer League star, scoring the second most goals of anyone in the League's six-year history with 69 goals in total. NAFC Championship
The North American Nations Cup and NAFC Championship were association football tournaments for teams in the area of North America. In 1947 and 1949, the NAFC Championship was organized by the North American Football Confederation. Cuba, Mexico, and the United States participated in both editions of the tournament. NAFC merged with the Confederación Centroamericana y del Caribe de Fútbol, CCCF to form CONCACAF in 1961. After a 41-year absence, another North American championship was organized by the North American Football Union. The North American Nations Cup was contested in 1990 and 1991 by Canada, Mexico, and the United States before the introduction of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Luis Flores (Mexican Footballer)
Luis Enrique Flores Ocaranza (; born 18 July 1961) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as a striker for Mexico at the 1986 FIFA World Cup. Playing career Club Flores debuted with Club Universidad Nacional in the 79/80 season. In 1980-81 he was part of the squad that won the league championship. In 1985, he joined Spanish team Sporting Gijón. He made a total of 32 appearances and 10 goals with the Spanish team. The following season, he came back to Mexico with UNAM Pumas, but later was signed again by a new Spanish team Valencia CF. He had a successful season with Valencia appearing 36 times and scoring six goals. He later came back to Mexico with the European experience to play with clubs such as Cruz Azul, Atlas, and Guadalajara. United States Men's National Soccer Team
The United States men's national soccer team (USMNT) represents the United States in men's international soccer competitions. The team is controlled by the United States Soccer Federation and is a member of FIFA and CONCACAF. The U.S. team has appeared in eleven FIFA World Cups, including the first in 1930, where they reached the semi-finals to finish third, the best result ever by a team from outside UEFA and CONMEBOL. 1949 NAFC Championship
The 1949 NAFC Championship was the second edition of the association football championship for the North American Football Confederation. In 1949, the NAFC Championship served both as a regional championship as well as the regional qualification tournament for the 1950 FIFA World Cup and was held in Mexico City. Four teams were invited, Cuba, Mexico, Canada and the United States, but Canada did not send a team. Mexico easily topped the standings, going undefeated and outscoring the two other teams seventeen goals to two. The United States came in second and Cuba, winless in its four games, was third. As the top two teams qualified for the World Cup, Mexico and the U.S. went to the finals in Brazil. Canada Men's National Soccer Team
The Canada men's national soccer team (french: Équipe du Canada de soccer masculin) represents Canada in international soccer competitions since 1924. They are overseen by the Canadian Soccer Association, the governing body for soccer in Canada. They have been a member of FIFA since 1948 and a member of CONCACAF since 1961. Their most significant achievements are winning the 1985 CONCACAF Championship to qualify for the 1986 FIFA World Cup and winning the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup to qualify for the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup.
