1990 FIFA World Cup Qualification (CONMEBOL–OFC Play-off)
The 1990 FIFA World Cup CONMEBOL–OFC qualification play-off was an association football match played over two-legs between Israel and Colombia. The first leg was played at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla, Colombia on the 15 October 1989; the second leg being played at the Ramat Gan Stadium in Ramat Gan, Israel on the 30 October 1989. Both teams had to compete in regional qualifiers to make it to the play-off. home-and-away tie between the winners of the Oceania qualifying tournament, Israel, and the third-best team from the South American (CONMEBOL) qualifying tournament, Colombia. CONMEBOL

Leonel de Jesús Álvarez Zuleta (born 29 July 1965) is a Colombian former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. He played 101 times for the Colombia national team between 1985 and 1997, making him the third most capped player in Colombian international football. He also served as head coach of the Colombia national team in 2011. Álvarez is the only coach to have been champion twice with Independiente Medellín. Andrés Escobar
Andrés Escobar Saldarriaga (; 13 March 1967 – 2 July 1994) was a Colombian footballer who played as a defender. He played for Atlético Nacional, BSC Young Boys, and the Colombia national team. Nicknamed ''The Gentleman'', he was known for his clean style of play and calmness on the pitch. On 2 July 1994, Escobar was murdered in the aftermath of the 1994 FIFA World Cup, reportedly as retaliation for having scored an own goal which contributed to the team's elimination from the tournament.
