1990 British Rowing Championships
The 1990 National Rowing Championships was the 19th edition of the National Championships, held from 20–22 July 1990 at the National Water Sports Centre in Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham. There was a record entry of 653 crews and over 2,000 competitors competing for 64 titles. Simon Larkin won a record equalling fourth singles sculls title ( Kenny Dwan also won four times). Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre
Holme Pierrepont Country Park, home of The National Water Sports Centre is located in the hamlet of Holme Pierrepont near Nottingham, England and on the River Trent. It is used for many different types of sports and has recently received significant investment which has enabled a major refurbishment of existing facilities as well as introduction of new facilities. Run by Serco on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, it was previously one of five National Sports Centres, and is a unique sporting venue set in the centre of the country. History The centre was constructed during 1970 and 1971 on a former gravel works and required the excavation of one and a half million cubic yards of material. Nottingham & Union Rowing Club
Nottingham & Union Rowing Club is a rowing club on the River Trent, based at Trentside, West Bridgford, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. History The club was founded in 1946 as an amalgamation of two clubs called the Nottingham Union Rowing Club and the original Nottingham Rowing Club (not the modern club formed in 2006). The reason for the merger of the two clubs was because the boathouse belonging to the Nottingham Union club was destroyed by bombs in World War II leaving them no base to row from. Kareen Marwick
Kareen Elizabeth Marwick married name Kareen Larkin (born 14 May 1961) is a former British rower who competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Rowing career Marwick was part of the coxless fours crew, with Tessa Millar, Katie Ball, Kate McNicol and Sue Bailey, that won the national title rowing for the A.R.A Squad, at the 1983 National Rowing Championships. She was part of the coxless fours with Kate Grose, Miriam Batten and Caroline Christie that won the national title rowing for the British squad at the 1990 National Championships. Miriam Batten
Miriam Batten (born 4 November 1964) is a former British rower who competed at three Olympic Games and winning a silver medal in 2000. Rowing career Miriam was a member of the Southampton University Boat Club whilst she studied at the University of Southampton. Batten was part of the coxless fours with Kate Grose, Kareen Marwick and Caroline Christie that won the national title rowing for the British squad at the 1990 National Championships. The first of three Olympic Games appearances came at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona when she was selected for the coxless pair with Joanne Turvey. The pair finished in fifth place. The second of three Olympic Games appearances came at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta when she was selected in the women's eight. Kate Grose
Katherine L.F. Grose (born 7 February 1959) is a retired British rower, who competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1992 Summer Olympics. Rowing career Gross took up rowing while at Cambridge University in 1978. Six years later she was in the women's boat race rowing for the blue boat when studying for a post graduate architecture diploma and was part of the Cambridge boat that won the eight at the 1984 National Championships. She represented England and won a silver medal in the eight, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and competed in the 1986 World Rowing Championships. The following year she was a member of the eight that won the national title rowing for a A.R.A squad at the 1987 National Championships and rowed in her second World Championships in Copenhagen. Annabel Eyres
Annabel Juliet Eyres (born 4 February 1965) is a British international rower and artist. Annabel Eyres was educated at the City of London School for Girls in London and Bryanston School in Dorset. She then studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, University of Oxford, where she was a student at Pembroke College. During this time, she rowed for the Pembroke College Boat Club and the Oxford University Women's Boat Club, competing in the Oxford and Cambridge Women's Boat Race. She also rowed for the Tideway Scullers School and the Upper Thames Rowing Club. Eyres competed in the women's double sculls event at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Joanne E Gough (born 17 November 1964) is a retired British rower who competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Rowing career Gough represented England and won a silver medal in the eight and a bronze medal in the coxed four, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Agecroft Rowing Club
Agecroft Rowing Club is a rowing club based at Salford Quays, Greater Manchester, England. It was formerly based close to the Agecroft Hall in Pendleton north. Its current location is its third within today's City of Salford on a site close to the city centre of Manchester. History There has been rowing in Manchester and Salford since 1823, with more than 15 clubs operating during the 1860s. Agecroft R.C. was formed by the gradual merging of these River Irwell-based clubs. Agecroft R.C. was established in Oct 1861 by Ishmael Lythgoe with its first boat house in the grounds of Agecroft Hall at Pendlebury before the manor house was sold and rebuilt by the James River in Virginia, USA. Birmingham Rowing Club
Birmingham Rowing Club is an amateur rowing club, based at Birmingham in England. It is situated on Edgbaston Reservoir in the centre of Birmingham. The club was founded in 1873 although there is reference to a 'Birmingham Soho Club' using the reservoir earlier in 1859. The club, which serves Birmingham is an open rowing club for men, women, adults, juniors and veterans. It is affiliated to British Rowing. Fiona Freckleton (born 6 November 1960) is a British rower. She competed in the women's eight event at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Freckleton is a bronze medalist in the Women's Pairs at the 1991 World Rowing Championships in Vienna, Great Britain's first medal in a major World Championship women's rowing event. Westminster School Boat Club
Westminster School Boat Club is a rowing club based on the River Thames at the Embankment, Putney, London. History The club is reputedly the oldest rowing club in the world. Anecdotal evidence exists for rowing at Westminster in the 18th century and official records date back to the 'Water Ledger' of 1813. Pink was chosen by Westminster as the School's colour for the rowing match against Eton College of 4 May 1837; before this race, both schools wore blue.
