1990 Baseball World Cup
The 1990 Baseball World Cup (BWC) was the 31st international Men's amateur baseball tournament. The tournament was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation, which titled it the Amateur World Series from the 1938 tournament through the 1986 AWS. The tournament was held, for the only time, in Canada from August 4 to 19. Cuba defeated Nicaragua in the final to win its 20th title. There were 12 participating countries, with all games played at the John Ducey Park in the city of Edmonton. The next eight competitions were also held as the BWC tournament, then was replaced in 2015 by the quadrennial WBSC Premier12. Rikkert Faneyte
Rikkert Faneyte (born May 31, 1969) is a former Major League Baseball outfielder who played from to for the San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers. He was a member of the Dutch National Team which finished in fifth place at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Career Faneyte grew up playing baseball starting at the age of four in the Netherlands and played college baseball at Miami-Dade South Junior College. Faneyte made his major league debut in 1993, becoming the third player from the Netherlands to play in the majors. Faneyte was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in December 1996. Faneyte also played for the L&D Amsterdam Pirates of Honkbal Hoofdklasse after finishing his major league career. Shinichi Sato (baseball)
, born August 7, 1965, is a retired Japanese professional baseball player from Sapporo, Hokkaidō, Japan. Sato joined the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks at age 28, but did not live up to expectations with the team. He was traded to the Yakult Swallows in 1996, and played in 113 games in 1999, marking a .341 batting average. He also broke the team record with 25 consecutive game hits. He was relegated to pinch-hitting duty afterwards, and retired after the 2005 season at age 40. He currently works as a batting coach under Tokyo Yakult Swallows manager Junji Ogawa. Julio Medina Salazar (born 16 January 1933) is a retired Colombian actor. He is notable for his debut work in ''Gunsmoke'' and for his award-winning role in ''Las aguas mansas''. Lourdes Gurriel Delgado (born 25 March 1957) is a Cuban baseball player and Olympic gold medalist. Playing career Gourriel played in the Cuban National Series. He won the Cuban National Series Rookie of the Year Award during the 1976-77 Cuban National Series for Azucareros. In 1978–1979, he hit 12 doubles to tie Armando Capiró and Jorge Beltrán for the Serie Nacional lead. He debuted with the Cuba national baseball team that year, hitting .294 in the 1979 Intercontinental Cup. Gourriel led the 1979–1980 Serie Nacional with 77 hits.
