1990 Big Ten Conference Football Season
The 1990 Big Ten Conference football season was the 95th season of college football played by the member schools of the Big Ten Conference and was a part of the 1990 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Iowa Hawkeyes won a four-way tie for the Big Ten Conference championship by defeating the three other teams atop the conference standings – Michigan, Michigan State, and Illinois – in their respective head-to-head matchups. The Hawkeyes earned their third trip to Pasadena in ten seasons, but lost 46-34 to Washington in the 1991 Rose Bowl. Michigan defeated Ole Miss 35-3 in the Gator Bowl to finish 9-3 on the season. The #7 Wolverines were the highest ranked Big Ten team in the final AP poll. Joining Michigan in the final rankings were the other conference co-champions – #16 Michigan State, #18 Iowa, and #25 Illinois. Curtis Duane Young Sr. (born May 29, 1968) is an American former professional football player who was a tight end in the National Football League (NFL). Darrick Dewayne Brownlow (born December 28, 1968) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins. He played college football at the University of Illinois. Early years Brownlow attended Cathedral High School, winning the Indiana 3A state high school championship in 1986. Jeffrey Marc Zgonina (; born May 24, 1970) is an American football defensive line coach for the Washington Commanders and former defensive tackle who played seventeen seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Purdue and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 1993 NFL Draft. Carlos Edward Jenkins (born July 12, 1968) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He played six seasons for the Minnesota Vikings (1991–1994) and the St. Louis Rams (1995–1996). Career Jenkins played for the Michigan State Spartans between 1987 and 1990. During his final two years at Michigan State, Jenkins made five interceptions, returning for an average of 7.0 yards per interception. Melvin Agee (November 22, 1968 – June 15, 2008) was a professional American football defensive lineman who played in the National Football League, NFL Europe, and the Arena Football League. In his 10-year professional career he played for the NFL's Indianapolis Colts (1991–1992) and Atlanta Falcons (1992–1995); NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy (1998); and the AFL's Tampa Bay Storm (1998–2002).
