1989–90 Los Angeles Clippers Season
The 1989–90 NBA season was the Clippers' 20th season in the National Basketball Association, and their 6th in Los Angeles. With the second overall pick in the 1989 NBA draft, the Clippers selected Danny Ferry out of Duke University. However, Ferry refused to play for the Clippers, and left to play overseas in Italy. This would force General Manager Elgin Baylor into trading his draft rights along with Reggie Williams to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Ron Harper. The Clippers were approaching .500 at 16–19 when Harper went down to a knee injury after 28 games. The team posted a 7-game losing streak midway through the season, and held a 21–26 record at the All-Star break. At midseason, the team acquired Winston Garland in a trade with the Golden State Warriors. The Clippers lost their final five games of the season, finishing sixth in the Pacific Division with a 30–52 record. Don Casey
Lawrence Donald Casey (born June 17, 1937) is an American former professional and collegiate basketball coach. He has coached two National Basketball Association (NBA) teams, the Los Angeles Clippers and the New Jersey Nets—each for a season and a half. He had previously coached the Temple Owls from 1973 to 1982. He also worked as an assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls (1982–83) and Boston Celtics (1990–1996). Casey grew up in Collingswood, New Jersey and attended Camden Catholic High School. As a young man in the 1960s, Casey coached at Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey, where he was recommended for a job as a JV coach by a friend and took over the varsity squad after the coach left the job. His coaching led to two state championships. Reggie Williams (basketball, Born 1964)
Reggie Williams (born March 5, 1964) is an American retired professional basketball player who played ten seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was an All-American college player at Georgetown University and was a member of their 1983–84 National Championship team. High school and college career Williams began his career as a McDonald's High School All-American while attending Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Baltimore, where he played with fellow NBA players Muggsy Bogues, Reggie Lewis, and David Wingate. The 1981–82 Dunbar Poets finished the season at 29–0 during Williams's junior season and finished 31–0 during his senior season, and were ranked first in the nation by USA Today. Jay Edwards (basketball)
Jay Edwards (born January 3, 1969) is an American former professional basketball player. Edwards was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers in the second round (33rd overall) of the 1989 NBA Draft. A 6'4" guard from Indiana University, Edwards played in only four games for the Clippers in his NBA career. He also played overseas for a few seasons. He entered the NBA after playing only two seasons for the Hoosiers. During his sophomore year at Indiana, he averaged 20.0 points per game and once held the school record for 20 consecutive games with a three-pointe leading the Hoosiers to the 1989 Big Ten title. Jeffery Allen Martin (born January 14, 1967) is an American former professional basketball player. Martin, a 6'5" shooting guard from Murray State University, was selected in the second round, 31st pick overall in the 1989 NBA draft, by the Los Angeles Clippers. He played two seasons in the NBA. Lenard Benoit Benjamin e-NOYT(; born November 22, 1964) is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1st round (3rd overall) of the 1985 NBA Draft. Kenneth Darnel Norman (born September 5, 1964) is an American former professional basketball player. After graduating from Crane High School in Chicago, Kenny was an outstanding forward for the Illinois Fighting Illini who was selected 19th overall by the Los Angeles Clippers of the 1987 NBA Draft. Daniel Ricardo Manning (born May 17, 1966) is an American college basketball coach and former professional player who is the Associate Head Mens Basketball Coach at the University of Louisville. Manning played high school basketball at Walter Hines Page High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, as well as Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas. 1989–90 Golden State Warriors Season
The 1989–90 NBA season was the Warriors' 44th season in the National Basketball Association, and 27th in the San Francisco Bay Area. With the 14th pick in the 1989 NBA draft, the Warriors selected Tim Hardaway from the University of Texas-El Paso. Hardaway teamed with All-Star forward Chris Mullin, and second-year star Mitch Richmond to form the threesome later known as Run TMC. The Warriors got off to a bad start losing 14 of their first 18 games, but posted two six-game winning streaks afterwards winning 12 of their next 15 games, and held a 23–24 record at the All-Star break.
