The 1989–90 Copa México was the 62nd staging of the Copa México, the 35th staging in the professional era. Copa México
The Copa MX (formerly called Copa Tower Monterrey, Copa Eliminatoria, Copa México and Copa Corona (beer), Corona MX (for sponsorship reasons)) was a Mexican association football, football cup competition that was established in 1907 in association football, 1907. After a lengthy hiatus that began in 1997 in association football, 1997, it was restored in 2012 in association football, 2012. On early editions of the cup, it consisted of both professional and amateur stages. It was the first official tournament that included teams from different parts of Mexico and was considered a prestigious tournament, especially during its earlier years of existence. Deportivo Toluca Fútbol Club S.A. de C.V. (), commonly known as Club Deportivo Toluca, is a Mexican football club, playing in the Primera División de México, the top-flight of Mexican football. Sergio Omar Almirón
Sergio Omar Almirón (born 18 November 1958 in Rosario) is a retired Argentine footballer who played as a centre-forward. During his career (1978–1993) he played for Newell's Old Boys, Tours FC (France), UANL Tigres (Mexico), Estudiantes, Central Córdoba and Talleres de Córdoba. Almirón was in the Argentina squad that won the 1986 FIFA World Cup, though he did not play any games during that tournament. Despite playing as a striker Almirón was allocated the number 1 shirt for the 1986 tournament, traditionally reserved for goalkeepers. The Estadio Tecnológico was a multi-purpose stadium located in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, located on the campus of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM). Sergio Almaguer
Sergio Almaguer Treviño (born 16 May 1969) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as a centre-back, who is the current assistant manager of Liga MX club Monterrey. Almaguer made his professional debut with the former Mexico club Ángeles de Puebla on May 16, 1987. Almaguer played with nine different clubs in Mexico and Turkey and also capped for the Mexico national team. Francisco Javier Cruz Jiménez (born 24 May 1966) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played for Monterrey and Tigres UANL, becoming one of the few players to be successful in both professional teams from Monterrey. The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaker, tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground.
