Summary The very beginning of the year saw compilation albums excluded from the UK Albums Chart, and spun off into the new UK Compilations Chart from the week commencing 8 January 1989. Albums such as the ''Now'' series had regularly dominated the chart since 1983, with often up to 4 of the Number 1s each year being hit compilations. '' Now 13'' was knocked off the top spot of the albums chart as a result of this new implementation. In the UK Singles Chart, eighteen singles reached number one. ''Ten Good Reasons'' is the debut studio album by Australian pop star and actor Jason Donovan. It was released on 1 May 1989 by PWL (UK) and Mushroom Records (Australia). It became the biggest selling album in the UK that year, and yielded three number-one singles, "Too Many Broken Hearts", " Sealed with a Kiss" and a duet with Kylie Minogue, "Especially for You". Holly Johnson
William Holly Johnson (born 9 February 1960) is an English artist, musician, and writer, best known as the lead vocalist of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, who achieved huge commercial success in the mid-1980s. Prior to that, in the late 1970s he was a bassist for the band Big in Japan. In 1989, Johnson's debut solo album, ''Blast'', reached number one in the UK albums chart. The Christians (band)
The Christians are a musical ensemble from Liverpool, England. They had the highest selling debut album of any artist at Island Records and international chart hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Big Fun (boyband)
Big Fun was a British boy band that was active between 1988 and 1994. The band consisted of Phil Creswick, Mark Gillespie and Jason John (a.k.a. Jason Herbert). They were produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. Career Before they were Big Fun, Creswick and John were in another regroup of Ian Levine's boy band Seventh Avenue with Mark Long. The other member of the group at that time was Steve Crawley who provided lead vocals for the group, and sang live at nightclub appearances across the UK. Other original Big Fun members included Keith Davies from Stretford in Manchester, who went on to star in ''Coronation Street''. The Reynolds Girls were a British dance-pop duo composed of sisters Linda (born in 1970) and Aisling Reynolds (born in 1972). "I Don't Wanna Get Hurt" is the second single from the album ''Another Place and Time'' by Donna Summer. The song was released on May 15, 1989, by Warner Bros. Records (Europe). The whole album was written and produced by British team Stock Aitken & Waterman (SAW) and was mainly in the style of their "hit factory" sound. This song was remixed for its release as a single, and in the UK became the Top 10 follow-up to its predecessor, the hit "This Time I Know It's for Real." Donna Summer
LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948May 17, 2012), known professionally as Donna Summer, was an American singer and songwriter.
