Chuck Shelton
Charles Shelton (August 16, 1935 – February 13, 2020) was an American college football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Drake University from 1977 until 1985, at Utah State University from 1986 to 1992, and at University of the Pacific in Stockton, California from 1992 to 1995, compiling a career college football coaching record of 81–127–1. He was the head coach at two schools, Drake and Pacific, when they canceled their football program. Drake brought it back for the 1987 school year, but Shelton had already left as head coach. Amos Alonzo Stagg Memorial Stadium, previously known as Pacific Memorial Stadium, was a 28,000-seat outdoor multi-purpose stadium in the western United States, located on the campus of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. The home venue of the Pacific Tigers was constructed in 1950 for football and later hosted women's soccer; it was closed in 2012 and demolished two years later. The 1989 Fresno State Bulldogs football team represented California State University, Fresno as a member of the Big West Conference during the 1989 NCAA Division I-A football season. Led by 12th-year head coach Jim Sweeney, Fresno State compiled an overall record of 11–1 with a mark of 7–0 in conference play, winning the Big West title for the second consecutive season.
