1989 Tour Of Britain
The 1989 Tour of Britain was the third edition of the Kellogg's Tour of Britain cycle race and was held from 29 August to 3 September 1989. The race started in Dundee and finished in London. The race was won by Robert Millar of the Z–Peugeot team. Robert Millar
Philippa York (born Robert Millar on 13 September 1958) is a Scottish journalist and former professional road racing cyclist. York, who competed when known as Robert Millar, is one of Britain's most successful cyclists. York won the "King of the Mountains" competition in the 1984 Tour de France and finished fourth overall. This success was the first time a British rider won a major Tour classification, and was unsurpassed as the highest Tour finish for a Briton for over 20 years until Bradley Wiggins was retrospectively placed third in the 2009 Tour de France. York started the Tour de France eleven times, finishing eight times. York finished second in the 1987 Giro d'Italia and also won the King of the Mountains classification. This was the highest finish by a Briton in the Giro d'Italia until Chris Froome won the 2018 race. Liverpool is a city and metropolitan borough in Merseyside, England. Jaanus Kuum
Jaanus Kuum (2 October 1964 – 26 August 1998) was an Estonian-Norwegian bicycle racing, racing cyclist. He began cycling exercises in 1978 under the guidance of Helvi and Rein Roos. From 1983 to 1984, he competed four times in trekking and road training as an Estonian champion. In 1984, he moved from Estonia to Norway. Paul Curran (cyclist)
Paul Curran (born 15 January 1961) is a former professional English racing cyclist from Thornaby, North Yorkshire. Curran rode for Great Britain in the Olympic Games, won the national road championship and won several medals at the Commonwealth Games. With wins in top amateur races in France, he could probably have secured a professional contract with a continental cycling team but preferred to remain in Britain. Cycling career Curran began riding for his local cycling club Stockton Wheelers and at the age of 14 completed a ten-mile time trial at Crathorne, North Yorkshire in 24–49. It was obvious he had talent when in 1977 he dominated the English schools national grass and track championship winning all three individual titles in the over-15-years category. Martin Earley
Martin Earley (born 15 June 1962) is a former Irish professional road bicycle racer, who competed in the 1984 and 1996 Olympic Games. Racing career He turned professional in 1985 with the Fagor team with whom he stayed until 1987. In 1986 he won the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia and the second of the Tour of the Basque Country. In 1987, he was part of the Irish team at the world road championship that ended with a win by Stephen Roche. After that he rode for Kas and then the Dutch PDM team of Sean Kelly. The highlight of his career was a stage win in the 1989 Tour de France when he broke clear of three riders 750m from the end of 157 km from Labastide-d'Armagnac to Pau. Earley completed five of his eight Tours; his highest finish was 44th in 1989.
