1989 PGA Championship
The 1989 PGA Championship was the 71st PGA Championship, held August 10–13 at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Long Grove, Illinois, northwest of Chicago. Payne Stewart won the first of his three Men's major golf championships, major championships, one stroke ahead of runners-up Andy Bean, Mike Reid (golfer), Mike Reid, and Curtis Strange. Weather stopped play on Friday and Saturday with the rounds completed the following morning. In the last pairing, Reid played the final nine holes of the third round on Sunday morning. He nearly led wire-to-wire, but struggled on the final three holes, all with water in play. His tee shot at the 16th hole was pushed and found the water hazard, and he made bogey. Mark O'Meara
Mark Francis O'Meara (born January 13, 1957) is an American professional golfer. He was a tournament winner on the PGA Tour and around the world from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s. He spent nearly 200 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking from their debut in 1986 to 2000. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015. Ben Crenshaw
Ben Daniel Crenshaw (born January 11, 1952) is a retired American professional golfer who has won 19 events on the PGA Tour, including two major championships: the Masters Tournament in 1984 and 1995. He is nicknamed ''Gentle Ben''. Phil Blackmar
} Philip Arnold Blackmar (born September 22, 1957) is an American professional golfer. He played on the PGA Tour from 1985 to 2000 and on the Champions Tour from 2007 to 2012. He was the tallest player on the PGA Tour during his time on tour, standing 6'7". Career Blackmar was born in San Diego, California. He played college golf at the University of Texas where he was a three-time All-Southwest Conference selection. He graduated in 1979 with a degree in finance and turned pro in 1980. James Christopher Perry (born September 27, 1961) is an American professional golfer. He has been featured in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking. Amateur career Perry was born in Edenton, North Carolina. He was the Minnesota high school golf champion in 1978, 1979 and 1980. Perry attended the Ohio State University, where he was a three-time All-America selection. He finished runner-up in the 1983 U.S. Amateur. Perry was named Collegiate Player of the Year in 1984. Tom Kite
Thomas Oliver Kite Jr. (born December 9, 1949) is an American professional golfer and golf course architect. He won the U.S. Open in 1992 and spent 175 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking between 1989 and 1994. Career Kite was born in McKinney, Texas. He began playing golf at age six, and won his first tournament at age 11. Kite attended the University of Texas on a golf scholarship and was coached by Harvey Penick. Leonard Thompson (golfer)
Leonard Stephen Thompson (born January 1, 1947) is an American professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour and Champions Tour. Thompson was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina. He attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and was a member of the golf team. He was a teammate of future fellow PGA Tour players Joe Inman and Lanny Wadkins. He graduated in 1969 and turned pro in 1971. Thompson had more than 70 top-10 finishes in PGA Tour events during his career, winning 3 times. His first win came in 1974 at Jackie Gleason's Inverrary Classic. His best finish in a major championship was T7 at The Masters in 1979. 1993 PGA Championship
The 1993 PGA Championship was the 75th PGA Championship, held August 12–15 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. Paul Azinger won his only major title on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff with Greg Norman. Azinger birdied four of the last seven holes to get into the playoff. Norman, the 1993 Open champion, joined Craig Wood as the only players to lose playoffs in all four major championships. It was the fifth playoff under the sudden-death format at the PGA Championship, first used in 1977. Norman was attempting to become the first player to win the Open Championship and PGA Championship in the same year since Walter Hagen in 1924.
