IAAF
World Athletics, formerly known as the International Amateur Athletic Federation (from 1912 to 2001) and International Association of Athletics Federations (from 2001 to 2019, both abbreviated as the IAAF) is the international governing body for the sport of athletics, covering track and field, cross country running, road running, race walking, mountain running, and ultra running. Lynn Williams (athlete)
Lynn Kanuka-Williams ( Kanuka; born July 11, 1960) is a Canadian athlete from Regina, Saskatchewan. She competed in 3000m races, as well as a smaller number of 1500m races. She competed for Canada at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, U.S. in the 3,000 metres where she won the bronze medal (in the race notable for the incident between Mary Decker and Zola Budd). Four years later in Seoul, South Korea she finished fifth in the 1500 metres. Additionally, she collected a bronze medal at the 1989 World Cross Country championships. Francesco Panetta
Francesco Panetta (born 10 January 1963 in Siderno) is a former Italian long-distance runner, who won several medals at international championships in the 1980s. Career Panetta's greatest achievement was the victory at the 1987 World Championships in the 3000m steeplechase in Rome. In the previous year Panetta won a silver medal at the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart, only narrowly losing to the East German runner Hagen Melzer. At the 1988 Olympic Games, Panetta finished ninth in the 3000m steeplechase. Panetta won a gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the 1990 European Championships in Split. Throughout his career, Panetta set several Italian records (including 3000m and 10000m). In 1987 he ran the 3000m steeplechase in 8:08.57 min which is the current Italian national record. Bruno Le Stum
Bruno Le Stum (born 25 December 1959) is a retired French long-distance runner who specialized in the 5000 metres and cross-country running. He was born in Le Havre, but represented the club Montpellier PSC. He competed at the 1987 World Championships, the 1988 Olympic Games and the 1991 World Championships without reaching the final. On the regional level he won the silver medal at the 1989 Jeux de la Francophonie, he finished eighth at the 1990 European Championships and eighteenth—in the marathon—at the 1994 European Championships. His personal best time was 8.15.28 minutes, achieved in July 1991 in Nice. At the World Cross Country Championships he recorded many top placements. John Halvorsen
John Halvorsen (born 17 August 1966) is a retired Norwegian long-distance runner who specialized in 10,000 metres and cross-country running. He represented IF Minerva. In 10,000 m he finished sixteenth at the 1988 Summer Olympics, twelfth at the 1990 European Championships and nineteenth at the 1992 Summer Olympics. At the 1987 World Championships he competed in both 10,000 m and 5000 m without reaching the finals. His highest place from the IAAF World Cross Country Championships was a tenth place from 1989. He also attended University of Ottawa and is also a record 4 times Canadian University (CIAU) Cross Country Champion and a 5 times all Canadian as well as two times Canadian Cross Country Champion and won several Canadian 10K Road Championships. Moses Tanui (born 20 August 1965 in Sugoi Nandi District, Kenya) is a former Kenyan long-distance runner who won the gold medal over 10,000 metres at the 1991 World Championships in Athletics in Tokyo. Biography At the 1993 World Championships in Athletics in Stuttgart he finished second after a controversial incident on the final lap in which he lost one shoe after the eventual winner Haile Gebrselassie had stepped repeatedly, lap after lap as a race video reveals, upon Tanui's heels. He also won the 100th Boston Marathon in 1996 as well as the 102nd Boston Marathon in 1998. Tanui won IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 1995 and silver in the 1997 competition. Andrew Masai (born 13 December 1960) is a Kenyan former long-distance runner who competed in road running and cross country running events. He was one of Kenya's best cross country runners in the late 1980s, taking six team gold medals at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Stephen James "Steve" Moneghetti, (born 26 September 1962), is an Australian long-distance runner and physical health consultant, represented Australia on many occasions. Moneghetti has a degree in civil engineering, a graduate diploma in education and an honorary doctorate from the University of Ballarat. He is a personal development consultant with the Ministry of Education and chair of the Victorian Review into Physical and Sport Education in Schools. Moneghetti was born in Ballarat, Victoria, and was not considered to be a good runner in primary school. When he attempted to join Little Athletics, his father was told that Moneghetti was not wanted.
