1989 Hockey East Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
The 1989 Hockey East Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the 5th Tournament in the history of the conference. It was played between March 3 and March 11, 1989. Quarterfinal games were played at home team campus sites, while the final four games were played at the newly opened Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, the home venue of the Boston College Eagles. This was the final year the Hockey East championship was decided at a home venue to one of its member teams (as of 2014). By winning the tournament, Maine received the Hockey East's automatic bid to the 1989 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Matthews Arena
Matthews Arena (formerly Boston Arena) is a multi-purpose arena in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the world's oldest multi-purpose athletic building still in use, as well as the oldest arena in use for ice hockey. The arena opened in 1910 on what is now the east end of Northeastern University's campus. Matt DelGuidice
Matthew J. DelGuidice (born March 5, 1967) is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played 11 games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins between 1991 and 1992. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1990 to 1999, was spent in various minor leagues. Playing career DelGuidice started his career early, playing in Connecticut high schools, first for East Haven then on to Notre Dame, where he won the state title in his senior year. DelGuidice then went to Williston Northampton School, winning a Division 2 title. DelGuidice played in the NCAA with St. Anselm College during the Hawks' 1986-87 season, and compiling a 13-11-3 record, and a .916 save percentage. Greg Brown (ice Hockey)
Gregory Curtis Brown (born March 7, 1968) is an American ice hockey coach and a former professional player, most notably for the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is currently the head coach of the Boston College Eagles, an NCAA Division I team competing in Hockey East. Previously, Brown was a member of the Eagles coaching staff for fourteen years from 2004–2018, serving as an assistant coach under Jerry York and later alongside him as associate head coach. He also coached under David Quinn with the New York Rangers from 2018–2021 and served as the head coach for the Dubuque Fighting Saints for the 2021–22 USHL season. Timothy Paul Sweeney (born April 12, 1967) is an American former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League from 1990 to 1998 with the Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and New York Rangers. Stephen Herbert Heinze (born January 30, 1970) is an American former National Hockey League right winger. He played for the Boston Bruins, Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres, and Los Angeles Kings between 1992 and 2003. He was drafted in the third round, 60th overall, by the Boston Bruins in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. Schneider Arena
Schneider Arena was named in honor of Rev. Herman D. Schneider, O.P., the founder of Providence College hockey and a longtime teacher at the school. It is located at the far northern end of campus, on the corner of Huxley Ave. and Admiral St., and is notable for the reflective energy-conserving ceiling that was installed in 1992. The arena is also used extensively by local hockey organizations and is the traditional site of the state high school ice hockey championships. Hockey East
The Hockey East Association, also known as Hockey East, is a college ice hockey conference which operates entirely in New England. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. Hockey East came into existence in 1984 for men's hockey when most of its current members split from what is today known as ECAC Hockey, after disagreements with the Ivy League members. The women's league, the WHEA, began play in 2002.
