1989 Copa Interamericana
The 1989 Copa Interamericana was the 12th. edition of the Copa Interamericana. The final was contested by Colombian club Atlético Nacional (champion of 1989 Copa Libertadores) and Mexican club Club Universidad Nacional (mostly known as "UNAM", winner of 1989 CONCACAF Champions' Cup). The final was played under a two-leg format in July–August 1990. The first leg was held in Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellín, where Atlético beat UNAM 2–0. Copa Interamericana
The Copa Interamericana ( en, Interamerican Cup) was an annual club football competition contested between a representative from North America (CONCACAF) and South America (CONMEBOL). Established in 1969, it was discontinued in 1998 after CONCACAF clubs, particularly those from Mexico, began participating in CONMEBOL competitions. The competition was intended to be contested between the winners of the North American CONCACAF Champions Cup and the South American Copa Libertadores tournaments, although the participants varied at times. The competition was usually contested over a two legged tie, with a playoff or penalty kicks if necessary. However, it was common for several consecutive editions to go unheld. Jorge Campos Navarrete (born 15 October 1966) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. A notable player of Mexico in the 1990s and early 2000s, Campos was an eccentric player, known for his constant play outside the penalty area – often functioning as a sweeper-keeper, as well as his acrobatic, risky, and flamboyant style of goalkeeping, and his colourful playing attire. David Patiño (born 6 September 1967) is a Mexican former professional footballer and manager. He obtained a total number of 28 caps for the Selección de fútbol de México (Mexico national team) between 1993 and 1996, and was a squad member at the 1993 Copa América. Sergio Arturo Bernal Hernández also known as "El Puma Mayor" (The Eldest Puma) (born 9 February 1970) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Club career Bernal played as a goalkeeper for Club Universidad Nacional, a Mexico City team commonly known as the Pumas. He joined the Pumas in 1988 from the UNAM Fuerzas Basicas.
